themadstad This £100 million which is indeed said to be more like £90 is the expected increase in revenue for a season in the premier league and the 4 years of parachute payments. It's not just a windfall.

Yeah but surly we have a bit more money to spend in the transfer market than what we have spent sounds like the days of madejski again

The owners want the club to make a profit, once they've covered the losses from last season, the big wage hike this year and made sure there's enough in the bank to pay for the stadium expansion it doesn't leave a huge amount for transfers.

Premier League Survival > stadium expansion.

A season in the premier league of television monies is worth more than a seasons parachute payment, so it might be a decent business plan to stay here for more than one season.

The point was £90m would be an expected revenue increase with 1 PL season then the subsequent 4 years parachute payments.

I'd consider a poor business plan just looking to stay up just a season or two.

Ive been watching reading for over 20 years now and i thought when Anton bought the club things would be different we would be competitive in the buying of players and Establish ourselves as a premier league club but the lack of action in the market makes me wonder if reading does have the ambition to stay in the premier league as were being left behind again by are rivals in the transfer market

We'd need to speak to Anton about budgets for transfers.

Ideal
leicsRoyal When you look at some of the signings that the suspected bottom half teams are making, it's worrying.
The premier league is becoming a billionaires playground, thank god we have one. Can someone now tell him to stick SSN on as it's deadline day.

Some of us, well I only remember myself and Royal Lady really, suggested that we were concerned about TSI's funding.
Now we've not seen any real signings, fair enough, I don't want us to risk our financial future - but what does this say about cashflow? How do they expect us to believe they can fund a stadium expansion when they can't afford to pay an extra £1M for Jordan Ayew?

Basicly it feels like we are flat broke and on the dole.

I would be amazed if the value of the club hasn't considerably increased since Anton parted with his pocket money. I would never want us to gamble with the future of the club but surely haggling over £1 million for Zaha and Ayew is a bit short sighted.

We've spent more in 9 months under Anton then we did in the last 4-5 seasons under Madejski

A 38,000 capacity Madstad for the visit of Barnsley isn't that appealing.

Which is fine...don't disagree. But that doesn't mean we're not getting passed by many of our competitors in the race to stay up. I know, I know, it is still early. But...

Right now quibbling over £1 million for Zaha and Ayew each has Nick Hammond's negotiating style written all over it.

£1million is a lot of money though :|

Get ripped off now and that sets a dangerous precedent for every negotiation that will follow.

In the context of a premier league clubs main two transfer targets, £1 million really is not a lot.

That isn't even walking around money for a PL club...it is more like spare change at the bottom of your pocket.

It's 20% of what we (supposedly) value the player at.

That's a significant amount, especially if you apply it to the 4/5 signings we normally make in a transfer window.

We do things the right way. Can that be frustrating on days like this? A little yes, but it's a small price to pay if it means we don't end up like the Portsmouths of this world.

Also, if we'd signed Pog and Guthrie today instead of 2 months ago then we'd all be as giddy as Gary Glitter at a Glee concert. We did our business early, and as of 2 days ago we had signed more players than any other club in the league. Other clubs have left it late, and are getting less value as a result.

I'm so glad that those in charge don't think like this.

How much money do you think RFC will make this year out of interest?

If we had signed Guthrie and Pog today instead of 2 months ago a lot of us would be concerned and on edge for two months.

How much do we stand to lose if we go right back down? As incredibly difficult as it is to get to the PL it is much more difficult to stay there.

And you think signing Zaha will guarantee our survival?
