Not a terribly window and not a great one. As CW said it could have been a lot worse had the club caved in under a big offer or if a player had kicked up a big stink about wanting to move now.

We did need cover in some positions but at least Obita has provided an option at left-back and Hector's return gives us cover at centre back.

Akpan's return to form has bolstered the midfield options and really it's only up front that we're screwed if there's a significant injury.

That being said the loan window opens again in a week so we can always dip in to that, as we did to bring in Afobe & Mullins during the last run-in.

Has anyone said the loan window is still open yet?

I don't much mind us not bringing anyone in but doesn't this follow the :| course of the previous transfer window?

The last 6 months at RFC has been an utter shambles. Clearly the main culprit for this has been AZ so I am not blaming JM or anyone else still at the club BUT to paint this transfer window as a success is completely laughable.

IT HAS BEEN A SHAMBLES - just be honest with the fans.

At least it is over now and I for one look forward to how the rest of the season evolves. And I am now fully supportive of Adkins, as he has been given a difficult job this season with all the madness behind the scenes and even play offs must now be considered a success.

The club's media office really know how to take the piss out of the supporters.

This morning they are making a big thing of the fact it has been a good window because we have turned down bids for our players.

At least one of those p*ss taking bastards must have been present as a minder for Madejski when he gave his staged interview with BBCRB and therefore heard him, not once but twice, give assurances that there would be transfer funds available for Adkins to strengthen his squad this window (and no, Madejski fans, he did not say that was conditional on the sale of the club going through).

Therefore it has not been a good window. It has been a bad window and once again Madejski has given it the big PR thing, given undertakings and then failed to walk the walk.

Don't know why you are exempting Madejski. Someone who is lauded as a brilliant businessman clearly f*cked up the structure of the sales agreement and then had the cheek to give the fans assurances re funding (he didn't have to and you are correct in that he should have been honest with fans) which he then didn't deliver on.

Big Ern Club trying to claim this transfer window was a wild success for the club as we didn't sell anyone....is there no end to the spin. Nigel Howe even stated in the interview that despite a lot of interest we resisted...because the other clubs didn't offer enough cash. So we would have sold had the offers been better. We stand still as others move forward.

£5million + Parachute payments in. £900k on Danny Williams out. Sorry RFC, simply not good enough and you have failed to manage the expectations of the fans yet again.

You've forgotten the £25m+ on wages we've inevitably got that's most likely more than our turnover.

Disagree. our squad is largely in tact from our relegation. We started with an extremely strong squad. We still have McCarthy, Federici, Bridge, Guthrie, McAnuff, McCleary, Pogrebnyak and Le Fondre who would all probably be able to walk into pretty much any team in the division. By contrast look at our opponents today. Lost 2 of their top players. We're in an enviable position. The problem here is people's expectations set too high.

Keeping this squad together on what is one of the highest wage bills in the league shouldn't be taken for granted. I would have liked to see a striker and left-back come in, but we did well to come out of it with the squad in tact. We have a great chance of finishing in the top six this season, so now we can kick on and get the take-over right behind the scenes. I also wouldn't rule out a loan signing once the dust settles and it becomes clear who is out in the cold at their respective clubs.

To me, it was very unrealistic to think we were going to spend when the ownership of the club is up in the air. We all know where the holes are in the squad, but we are not in a position to spend. That's the be all and end all of it.

What I do object to, is that club don't tell it straight. Like Big Ern alludes to on his other posts, it's all very happy clappy and Madejski, bless him, does what he always does and spouts the appropriate rhetoric when applicable. When times are bad, he talks of cutting cloth, when it's good we have the money to spend. The truth is always somewhere in between...but we get told it time and time again and it's never really the actual truth.

It's not the end of the world, whatever we get from this shambles of a season will be a bonus. If we get into the play-offs, sweet, it'll be an adventure. Losing at Wembley would suck again, sure...but if we win, that scares the shit out of me, tbf, for the longer term. If we stay where we are, which is my preferred solution, the manager (whomever that may be) will have time to mould the squad to what he wants...then we can be on a much better footing to go for the Premier League and stay there.

This wasn't a window where we'd be in a position of power to make statements of intent. I expect this summers window to be much more to our liking.

Bids knocked back yesterday for McCarthy, McCleary, Le Fondre, Obita and Pog. You cannot complain that we stood firm and knocked back all of those offers. That also suggest money problems have been somewhat exaggerated. (via maffff)

Obviously not losing players IS good news. We'd have been screwed if we cashed in and couldn't replace them with anyone decent so in the context of our position, and with players due to be coming back from injury, it's not been a bad window.

It's not been a good one though either.

There's plenty of players who've moved that could've strengthened our squad and we've obviously not been in a position to compete for them. Hopefully we will still be able to dip into the loan market at some point, but I won't be holding my breath.

Why are football fans so obsessed with transfers? Does it add some excitement to boring lives?

We have a good squad, we have players returning from injury, we seem to have found a way to play that suits the squad, etc.

I really don't see the issue.

The issue is that if you're not improving them you're going backwards.

We have some players who've come in and not paid off yet (Drenthe, Blackman etc), some that have suffered injuries and need covering or replacing (Karacan, Legiertwood, Bridge etc) and some that just need improving for the team to keep evolving. Some of that can be done by bringing through the youngsters, but that's not always possible and so we have to look elsewhere to strengthen.

Not sure why that's such a tough concept to grasp.
