Just ligament damage for Mattock - out for weeks rather than months!

That'll still take him past the transfer deadline. If we were/are interested in him, we're not gonna sign him when he's injured. Looks like Hunty will deputise till Jan

The Reading Chronicle is linking us with a move for Kieron Gibbs

http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/articles/2/4070

READING are tracking Arsenal’s highly-promising left-back Kieron Gibbs but say they are unlikely to make a signing before their Saturday’s clash with Plymouth Argyle.

Boss Steve Coppell is desperate to land a left-back to replace Nicky Shorey who moved to Aston Villa for about £4 million last week.

Their hopes of getting Leicester City’s Joe Mattock were dashed on Tuesday night when the England U21 star suffered a suspected broken leg after setting up the goal in a 1-0 win over Stockport County in the Carling Cup.

Dagenham and Redbridge’s Scott Griffiths, who played in their defeat by Reading, is another possibility, as is Sheffield United’s Chris Armstrong.

However, the Chronicle understands a deal to bring in 18-year-old Gibbs on loan for the season has been mooted at the MadejskI Stadium.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a big fan of loaning out his youngsters and Gibbs had a spell with Norwich City last season. However, it is believed the only thing going against Gibbs is his lack of experience.

Royals chief executive Nigel Howe said: “I don’t think we will have anything sorted by the weekend. It’s important we get the right person in.

“We know who we can sign at short notice but we must look at the whole marketplace. We’ve been doing that for several years because we always felt Nicky Shorey would go. Now we’re revisiting the names on that list plus a couple more.”

However, he added: “Gibbs is the sort of player Arsenal will loan out. Signing a Premier League player for the season could be very attractive to a club like ours.

“He’s an outstanding prospect but the feeling is he is a little too young for what we need.”

Director of football Nick Hammond added: “I’m speaking to a number of clubs with regards to bringing players in. We have a list of opportunities and dialogue is on-going.”

Meanwhile, Reading have rubbished reports suggesting Kevin Doyle is on the brink of a £7 million move to Sunderland and that Hull City have tabled a £3 million bid for Andre Bikey.

Hammond insisted: “We’re in season now and we are determined not to lose anyone else.”

Babayaro would be a decent signing IMO for at least 1 season

Mattock, Griffiths, Armstrong all injured well maybe the club should have got up off its arse and done something about Shorey's replacement sooner, all this cock about not getting somebody "in case Shorey doesn't leave", and the next Coppell is saying that Shorey has stated since last year his intentions to move on................just another spin story. I for one wouldn't be surprised if we still have Hunty at left back at the end of January as well.

Don't worry, he says in the EP that he can play there all season if necessary.

Wednesday reported Plymouth to the FA last week for an illegal approach for GIlbert, but Wednesday fans would happily drive him there themselves.
