We have made an offer to QPR for Connolly. Fee believed to be around £900k.

We enquired about a permanent deal in February but they didn't want to entertain it then. In his defence, against those complaining about him, he was very good out of position at RB before he got injured, and he clearly wasn't fully fit against Birmingham. He would provide good cover at CB and if required RB, and also wont break the bank to bring him here.

Big Ern Southampton linked to Zat Knight from Bolton. Would be available on a free. An experienced and solid Prem CB who has a couple of caps for England. Always rated him and we could do a lot worse.

No thanks

+1. He has been genuinly AWFUL.

urz13 Actually what about Misimovic if we can't get Gylfi? We have the financial muscle now.

I think we should try and get N'Doye.

THIS SO BADLY.

25 years old, been at Watford 7 seasons, and these are his stats:

Adrian Mariappa
app, goals, fa cup, league cup, other, total, discipline
2005–06 3 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 5 0 0 0
2006–07 19 0 5 0 1 0 0 0 25 0 2 0
2007–08 25 0 2 0 2 0 1 0 30 0 2 0
2008–09 39 1 3 0 5 0 0 0 47 1 3 0
2009–10 46 1 1 0 2 0 0 0 49 1 6 0
2010–11 45 1 2 0 2 0 0 0 49 1 2 1
2011–12 38 1 2 0 1 0 0 0 41 1 7 1
Career total 215 4 15 0 15 0 1 0 246 4 22 2

Only had 2 reds in 215 games spread over 7 seasons; that's not bad going. Played 19 games in the PL with Watford too, the same year we were in that division; albeit they obviously went down.

However I think he's worth looking at indeed :!:

Agreed on the last point, but without the need for random statistics that don't tell us anything.

He's a young centre back who has shown very good potential and has improved his game consistently over the last few seasons to the point that he is now one of the best specialist centre backs in the division and still improving. He did a very good job against us in our last match at Vicarage Road.

RE: Connolly

If we can get him for 900k then it will be well worth doing. He's a good age and decent quality, and will be good cover.

However, we need more than just 'cover' signings, so hopefully he wasn't included in McDermott's pre-season 3.

We do need more than just cover signings i agree, but i don't think we need new starters as CB. Pearce and Gorks have done more than enough to than justify a decent run in the prem. To have Connolly as cover for anywhere at the back would be fantastic. Solid and safe

I was thinking what about a couple of players that we could probably take off Rangers for cut prices:

Steve Davis (might of signed a new contract before Rangers went into admin) - can play as a centre mid or a right winger - £2.5 mil-3 million
Naismith - can play most attacking positions very creative player

Probably the two players out of their squad that could perform at a good level and I don't think their wages be out of proportion with the bill we currently have. Sort of players in terms of personality that would fit in well with the current squad no problem

I'd happily take Sone Aluko from Rangers.

If the potential new owner does set up a NewCo then all Rangers players would be available for free.

Davis played in the pl with Villa and Fulham if I recall?

I'd hardly say they were league 1 standard players been further than any of our players have been (Champions League) ok granted the SPL is a breeze for Rangers/Celtic but id think you'd be wrong to say they would have nothing to offer to the team

I'd say most players outside the Old Firm are League One standard with a small percentage of Championship standard. Celtic and Rangers have a lot of Championship standard players but do have some decent players and Davis was not out of his depth in the Premier League when he played before. I don't think he's any better than the players we have though and would bolster the squad rather than have the impact we need from a new signing.

Yeah I would agree not outstanding individuals but it never really has been about individual players at Reading really with the exception of Sig. I just thought when watching Davis he is a very hard worker in terms of winning the ball and when he does get it he is very good at doing the simple things never mind the fact he does have that killer pass in his locker.

Naismith is a very good finisher who I thought would be a useful player to have as he can play in a number of attacking positions on the wings or through the centre.

I geniunely think it could work out well though look at players like Mcfadden who actually played for Motherwell before he joined Everton! If they are going to be frees as well would 100% be worth a gamble
