Royal Lady As I just mentioned on the Rumours board - if we'd had an offer accepted (as per the quote in the Chronic) why would Smith have played last night and risked injury? I would have expected us to have signed him by now in all honesty - for £1.8 million if necessary - if Rodgers wants him that much and that was his asking price - I don't think we were originally expecting to get 2.8 mill for Bikey, so that's a bonus to the coffers shirley?

Don't believe what you read in the papers!

Saying that, the Post report a direct quote from Mackay saying that the bid will be considered early this week. That has a bit more weight to it, so perhaps they're waiting for last nights game to be out of the way before considering it.

Royal Lady Do players normally play when a fee has been accepted? What if Smith had been injured in that Watford game?

Last offer was made just prior to the game, so prob not accepted til after the game.

georgerob Smith isn't the type of striker we need to bring in though as he fits into the same mould as all the other strikers at the club e.g. long, hunt..... We need to bring in someone who's big, strong and can hold the ball up which none of our players can do atm, and smith doesn't fit into that category.

Wrong.

We need someone who can create in the final third.

And he's nothing like Shane Long.

What I mean is that both have the same physical presence, size and stature up front, and wouldn't be able to hold many balls up and win many flick ons and headers against big centre backs. Where as if we bought in a big centre forward like swansea had yesterday with dobbie or something we maybe more of a threat up front especially with the formation we use.

Watford are stalling deliberately to make things as difficult as possible for Rodgers as they feel he was tapped up.

Leaving it late so we don't have any options if it falls through.

LOL

Utter rubbish as usual.

Middlesborough have enough small strikers and wingers.

Should have used a club like Newcastle for this WUM.

Who cares? Bid accepeted is what matters. It's now up to Tommy Smith who has apparently said he wants to come here and NOT move North.

If that's true you have to hope that the relationship with Rodgers is strong enough to keep us as Smith's first choice, that and not wanting to move up north of course.

We won't be able to compete financially with Stoke, and 'Boro aren't too shy with their money either of course, but Smith would presumably be coming here as one of our top earners, so hopefully we're not miles away from what 'Boro would be offering.

Actually was it Zammo who came up with the bullshit about the Mills deal being off because Birmingham have made a late bid?
