Extended-Phenotype Players who are good for Reading, should never, ever leave Reading.

It's like Superman losing his powers. Without Reading, they are just blokes standing around in gay looking leotards.

Recent history tends to support this view. Doyle, Kitson etc all stagnated at best once they left here. Lessons to be learned by the players methinks.

The only players in recent memory who have successfully gone on to better things are:
Neil Webb
Kerry Dixon
Shaka Hislop
Terry Hurlock

Feel free to add to the list but there are many, many more who have not kicked on since leaving us.

Keith Curle? Decent career at the top level including being the highest priced British defender at the time when he moved for 2.5mil to Citeh.

Torn on Sidwell, I'd lean on the side of better things for playing in the Champions League and maintaining a role in Premiership sides for 6 years after leaving.

SPARTA Can someone please make this thread go away? Unless we can amazingly come up with 15 points from the final 33, we are down and this move will never happen.

Brian Howard is free in the summer though.

Which, of course, is nothing like the 14 points we got from the last 33.

Sidwell might have played in the Champions League, but not for very long. I mean, Sigurdsson has played in the Europa League, and the Bundesliga and Premier League.

I think at least until he joined Fulham, he hadn't gone onto better things at all. Dropped at Chelsea, dropped at Villa, and even at Fulham he hasn't held down a place in the same way he had at Reading.

I would suggest Shane Long and Kevin Doyle, though Doyle has been relegated now ofc. Can we count the likes of Charlie Austin, Connor Wickham, Scott Golbourne and Darius Henderson? Henderson and Wickham have played in the Premier League, even though they left when we were a Championship club. Austin will probably play in the Premier League too. Marcus Hahnemann was first choice for Wolves for about 18 months.

Indeed, just to highlight this, Kitson scored 22 (all comp) for Reading in 05/06. Upon leaving for Stoke, he scored 22 goals in total from 08/09 to 11/12 (including 86 games in the Championship). Also 2 of those were for us in the shambles of a loan spell he had.

It wasn't Gylfi's fault in this case though, like with some of the others. Wanted to stay, pushed out by the club for cash. Massive shame.

Glorious write up:

GOAL - West Ham 2-2 Tottenham - Gylfi Sigurdsson (76 mins)
Gylfi Sigurdsson made his name at Reading, and then Swansea, scoring beautiful, fabulous long-range strikes which showed off his superb technique. This is nothing like that.

He finally opens his Premier League account for Tottenham with a horrible, scrappy goal but he will not care at all. Gareth Bale's free-kick from the right is headed down by Joey O'Brien, it hits Steven Caulker on the back and bobbles into the path of Sigurdsson, who scrambles the ball in off the post from two yards out. Game on!

Gylfi can score tap in's as well as 40 yarders. Spurs fans hate him (in the most part), Liverpool fans hate him, Swansea fans couldn't care less. We tried to buy him. We failed to buy him. He isn't coming back if we go down.

That should be an assist to Adebayor as he completely flattens the West Ham defender meaning he gets nowhere near the ball
