Behindu I doubt they could time it so WHU can sign him but he's not eligible to play on Saturday. The deadlines must be the same surely ?

If it did happen though you would imagine there is no way he could play on Saturday - he wouldn;t have trained with WHU for a start !

It certainly used to be that a player had to be signed by 5pm the day before a game to be able to play the next day. Leave the deal until 11.59pm and it's sorted.

This could have changed of course.

That was back in the days before the windows and players were signed every week. Can't see there would be any logic in having the two deadlines different any more. Must be on a website somewhere !!

You say that but certainly last season, the FL's deadline was 5pm and the PLs midnight.

Meant that PL clubs could still buy FL players but that the FL clubs couldn't replace them.

RFC are in the bargaining position here. If we wish to bid for a WHU player then Shorey may possibly move across. Otherwise, he will be staying and running down his contract.

I guess that is two different organisations though and no real reason to synchronise (other than common sense !!)

Buried deep in the bowels of the PL website it must say - and you are right, I guess it would be no real surprise if they had managed to decide on two different deadlines !

I think the sad irony here is the fact that Shorey and indeed Lita also would not of thought twice about refusing a new contract if they hadn`t got international recognition with England, in other words they just look at themselves and say "look at me, Im a big England player now, in fact so BIG what am I doing playing for little Reading?"
wasn`t Shorey quoted last season as saying he was happy here and wanted to see out his career here?

No. He's never said he wanted to see out his career with us. Nobody had so far. He did however say that he was happy at the moment. That didn't mean that he wouldn't be MORE happy somewhere else. But I think this is all irrelevant until anything happens. If he goes it will be for £7m+ you mark my words. We have no reason to sell him as he has 2 years left on his contract and £5m is just an insult tbh.

Another story

ALAN CURBISHLEY has been told to cough up an extra £1million if he wants Nicky Shorey to join West Ham.

The Hammers had an official £5m bid rejected by Reading on Monday but they are determined to sign the England left-back.

More talks are planned this week with Curbs hoping to get Shorey, 26, before the transfer window closes on Friday — in time for Saturday’s encounter with the Royals at the Madejski Stadium.

But Reading are playing hardball because manager Steve Coppell would prefer to hang on to the defender.

Curbishley has tracked Shorey for weeks and made his move after Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Wigan.

Romford-born Shorey is keen on a move to Upton Park and the ambitious defender has refused to sign a new contract with the Royals.

He earned his second England cap against Germany last week but picked up a minor knee injury in the 2-1 friendly defeat at Wembley.

Although not news to me as I already knew that he wants to join us.

Melbguy Another rehashed story with obvious inconsistencies...

.

So for some obscure reason we're now askingfor £6 million rather than the £8 million you told us we want and that is described as playing 'hardball'.

Still no sign of Shorey being so desperate to move that he's asked for a transfer...

If the story is correct then more substance please, anonymous third part psotings on a WHU website not accepted !!

Also this from the Independent

West Ham have also lodged a formal £5m bid for England international left-back Nicky Shorey and are hoping to hear later today whether it has been accepted. However, Reading are continuing to indicate they will not sell until they have signed a replacement – even though Shorey has pleaded with them to let him leave and will not sign a new contract.

I don't need to prove anything you can either believe me or not, I was just sharing information up to you what you do with it..

The reality of the situation is this;

1. Shorey has 2 years left on his contract
2. We have no need to sell
3. West Ham have shown they pay stupid money
4. Baines (not capped for England) went for £6M

This is a sellers market and as such IF Shorey DOES want to go (Isn't it amazing how West Ham fans desperately want to believe that??) then we should be saying to West Ham the price is £10M, up front, take it or leave it.

Incidentally, I certainly wouldn't take a deal where appearances were a factor - any player that signs for the Hammers seems to get seriously injured the following week!!!

Talksport report we turned down £5m and told West Ham up it to £6m, they also said Shorey wants to go. The RTG's must finally admit that Shorey is a greedy git like all other footballers, so we should sell him rather than have him sulk all season.

Is it not feasible that Talksport have only got their "story" by reading one of the newspapers? And the newspapers have only got their story because someone has told them West Ham are interested in Shorey? I'm sure they'd love to have him but as far as I can make out, he's not for sale. I certainly don't believe that we would let him go for any price, without a replacement first. So another 2 days and we'll know for sure.

Sulk like the last 'greedy git' did. If he does that he can run down his contract and I'll be first to vote for him as player of the year.

I don't desperately want to believe it, I do believe it as I know it for a fact.

To be honest I'm not that bothered whether he signs or not as I don't think he's that special.

He's a Romford boy apples and pears. Why wouldnt he want to sign for a mediocre unstable club? It makes no sense at all.

Does not seem too long ago that Curbishly stated he did not have any interest in Shorey and was happy with what he had., I dont like Curbishly at West Ham, he has turned into a big headed cnut.
