And I hardly think Ferguson's performances will have encouraged Premier League managers of Scottish football's quality. Did ok I suppose.

Remind me of the last signing from the Scotland who went on to do well in the Premier League. I know there must have been some but I'm really struggling to think of any. Could we count Craig Gordon? McFadden?

I hardly think this rumoured move is as doom and gloom as you seem to think, Jay (& others!)
Charlie Adam, Barry Ferguson, Darren Fletcher (ok he wasn't signed from a Scottish club but he's from Dalkeith originally) David Goodwillie......well he will be at Blackburn shortly....err ......off the top of my head
Charlie Adam - season in the Championship to aclimatise him to decent football first.
Darren Fletcher - never played in the SPL
David Goodwillie - never played in the PL

That's one and a half decent examples out of 4.
Steven Fletcher
Henrik Larsson
Craig Gordon
Alan Hutton
James McFadden
Christophe Berra
Graham Dorrans
Danny Wilson
James MacArthur
Gary Caldwell
Steven Caldwell
Shaun Maloney
Carlos Cullear*

I would of taken every single one of them in the Reading team when we were in the Prem.

He completed the most amount of passes in the prem last season so I would say that was pretty encouraging

Thank you for your answers and you're right, a couple of those have been decent players (I like McCarthy and McArthur at Wigan). Not sure any of them would have gotten into that great Reading team (at the time, certainly).

Also not sure any of them actually fuel any talk of McCarthy being snapped up as soon as he performs well in the SPL.

No I doubt he will be snapped up straight away at all, I was only wanting to say that the SPL does have some decent players and that the betters one tend to end up leaving for better leagues.

Isn't Kris Boyd the record scorer in the SPL?

Hardly set the Championship on fire has he?

Ian Royal

Darren Fletcher - never played in the SPL

That's one and a half decent examples out of 4.

David Weir
Barry ferguson ( plenty of plaudits for Birmingham last season)
Craig Gordon
Mcfadden
Larsson
Van bronkhorst
Claudio Reyna
Stillian Petrov
Tugay
Fletcher last season for wolves

There are plenty, but you need to define how " well" you all mean, top club players? no...very good prem players outside of the top 4? Yes.

I don't need to define anything, I didn't say it. I just pointed out that the examples given to counter Sheshnu's point were crap. Better ones given since.

I hope we get him out on loan quickly, it will benefit him and hopefully stop people going on and on and on about how he should be in goal ahead of the "average" () Feds.

No, we'll just start asking for Andersen, who is also excellent.

Have you seen him play - I'm not sure that I have - I'd be interested in your thoughts on why he is excellent.

I think it's something to do with all the accolades he's got in international and loan appearances RL.

It was also a touch tongue in cheek btw.

I wasn't sure about Andersen until i saw him play for the first time against Iceland in the Euro U21s. He was excellent in that game and although i'd say McCarthy is ahead of him because he's proved himself for us there isn't much in it.

According to Fordham, he's being allowed to leave on loan. Not sure where to yet though.
