Have always been a fan of his and even wrote to the club suggesting that we look at him after I had seen him play one of his early games for Luton (before he played against us).
A very athletic defender like Mariappa and ,unless injuries have dented his speed, would love to see him sign for us.

Curtis Davies would be a great signing for Reading.

Curtis Davies is a superb Centre Back and worth 3 times the figure being mentioned. McDs words are pretty apt in this scenario. If something of interest comes along, we may do something.

At that price, needing a player of that quality shouldn't always be the primary concern.

SPARTA James Nursey is usually very reliable with goings on in the midlands. This sounds like back-up if the Sunzu fee can't be negotiated. I think I'd almost be happier with this as well. He wouldn't expect to come straight in and start, plus if we went down then he wouldn't want out either.

Yeh but hasn't he only posted what The Mirror are reporting? He's just taken a picture of their story so not necessarily backing it up.

Davies' name has been rumoured every window for about 3 years now. No smoke without fire as they say but if Pearce and Sunzu sign up i'd be very doubtful (and a bit disappointed) if we sign another centre back

Birmingham are in desperate need to sell though so could probably get the fee down to £1m but his wages, as mentioned will not be cheap

He is a Mirror journalist, it's his story.

He is also a full time Simon Church double.

To be fair Church and Davies look so alike that it was an easy mistake to make. Some would say they almost looked like twins.

But this is just idle speculation isn't it - have there been any indications that we've bid for this guy?

To be honest if the deal for Sunzu is become a problem and may cost £4 million then he isa much better bet at £1.5 million and more the Reading way as in a bargain.

Davies will only come if Sunzu doesn't, even if Pearce doesn't sign a new deal. I still think Davies would suit us better than Sunzo as well. He wont want to jump ship if we go down, whereas Sunzu will be under pressure to stay in the top flight.

Why? He has never played in the top flight and from what I have seen so far, probably never will
Davies is a far better player with a lot of experience, whereas Sunzu isn't even sharp enough to know who owns his contract.
Surprised he even managed to find his way over for a trial on his own, no wonder he needs "handlers"

EP says that Davies has been the subject of an approach from Reading but as it stands currently there is no deal in the pipeline. This is not surprising in the slightest as the window closes next Thursday so any deals to be done may not be done until then.

Personally I think acquiring Davies would be a superb move and if we can keep Pearce as well then the four specialist centre backs we'd have to call on, Davies, Pearce, Mariappa, Morrison would be exceptional. I'd expect Gorkss to be the one to lose out and move on but in the end it all comes down to Pearce and what he wants to do and whether TP Mazembe actually agree to sell Sunzu

"Exceptional" may be a bit over-the-top but I agree that would be a reasonable start at team building for next season.
