Agent Balti
Ideal
TBM Am i the only one that doesn't get the Karacan love?! - he just runs around for 90mins and does very little......

Typical football fan in not understanding player roles shocker.
That's his job in the team. He's a defensive midfielder. Defensive midfielders are supposed to run about a lot and chase opponents, and take defensive-minded positions on the pitch when they do not have the ball. The consequence of this is that they don't see so much of the ball, except when they stick their boot in and grab the ball off the opposing team's player. That is what they do! They are not the ones who play the 50 yard pass accurately onto the foot of the striker after picking off four players and doing a dozen cruyff stepovers, well unless their names are Gullit or Bakero. The point is he's doing his job, that's what makes him great.

You describe a good defensive midfielder. You're not describing Karacan, I'm afraid. Jem maybe be able to get busy and pull of a tackle, but that's about it. He's a version of what you say, but like some of the others, I'm really ambivalent about him staying or going. And I don't think for a minute he'll cut at Gala, can't see it at all.

The reason Jem wasn't good at is was because it wasn't his natural game. Throughout his academy career he was a box to box forward thinking midfielder who liked to arrive late at the end of the box and have a shot at goal. See Lawson D'ath now. I remember when Rodgers came in and he gave him the "makalele role" he said he was having to watch videos etc to learn it. It was all new to him.

I remember Jem being compared to Steve Sidwell an awful lot when he was breaking into the reserve side, and the first team for that matter (justifiably IMO). Rodgers made him Leon Britton, Brian made him a better Tabb, and now Adkins appears to be making him a foil for Guthrie. At various times he's been praised by fans for all of those roles. I think that speaks volumes, firstly about Karacan's versatility, but secondly about each manager's style.

Next season could be Jem's sixth in our first team. Strikes me that he's got a good chance of getting a testimonial, because I don't seriously see many sides being interested in him. Unless Galatasaray are really short of cover.

Karacan isn't a Turkish international, he's only played for them at u21 level.

Real?

Yep.

Beats "back the boys and make some noise" for creating an atmosphere, by a large margin.
Bet they don't issue clappers and cardboard jesters hats either.

Maybe sometime in 2013, maybe sometimes in 2014, or maybe not at all.

[not aimed at Gazza - I know he's been nailed on plenty of times and could well be again].

Bit ambivalent on Karacan. I think he's a bit of a dick, but he's been a good if occasionally limited player. He's been rather headless hoofy chicken a lot of the time under McDermott. Although he seemed much improved under Adkins. He just leaves me a little cold for some reason. Probably as much to do with his flames nonsense tbh.

I think we need better than him to succeed in the PL, but he'll do a good job at this level. If Gala want to give us £1m for him, I'd be fine with that. Although I'd have thought Hammo could double that with ease.

He used to be. He's grown up a lot in the last few years to be fair [although still has moments].
