Reading are said to be ready to make a loan move to try and bring Steve Sidwell back to the club, according to reports.
Despite the fact that Royals boss Steve Coppell said during the week that he expected his former player to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge, Coppell is now being linked with bringing him back to the Madejski Stadium in a loan move until the summer.
There is a long list of club's who have been linked with a move for Sidwell, but Coppell has maintained his good relationship with the player despite him leaving the Royals on a free transfer, and has indicated that he would be happy to bring him back to Berkshire.
A permanent deal worth £3m could be on offer in the summer if the loan goes through for Sidwell, who has found it difficult to get regular first team football with Chelsea.

He wouldn't get a game now that we have a Czech superstar.

ROFL..

Just been watching him on TV.

He really looks rubbish in that team of good CL players.
He looks the odd one out.
The Wigan player Brown keeps on beating him to everything.

Are you sure you watched the same game as me?
I thought that he was back to his all-action and non-stop running game and would love him to bring that back to our team.

I agree, thought he looked great, harrying the opposition constantly and breaking up their attacks just like he did for us. He's never going to be a Michael Essien type player, but I think people ignore the defensive cover he brings to the team, hence why defensively we are a shambles this season.

Murty's not convinced this will happen... although it's encouraging that it's a discussion that is clearly going on at RFC as well as this forum!

Who knows - maybe Matejovsky will turn up trumps at Chelsea and play a blinder!

Sidwell for 5m

by Howser17 » 23 Apr 2008 15:39

Just read that Villa are considering a 5m bid for Sidwell should their skipper Gareth Barry be scouted by one of the top 4. Should Reading stay up, 5m is definitely a price to consider for a player. However, would he fit back in our team, do we need him him? What do you think?

At £5m a bid would be well worth it. However...... we would never pay the wages he'd command and if clubs like Villa are in the mix he wouldn't even entertain the idea of coming back.

F*cking Bosman rule. From News of the World today:

Villa have reached agreement with Chelsea for midfielder Steve Sidwell. The fee for the former Reading star is £7m.

£7m? I'd be rather startled if MO'N thought he was worth paying that much for.
