Binfield Royal I have met Brian when I did some work for him in 2004. He was a genuine nice guy as you would expect.
However, it would be delusional for anyone on this forum to think that any manager or player has any loyalty to a club beyond their pay cheque. RFC gave Pardew his first chance but as soon as West Ham came offering to triple his salary (and that is about right BTW) he was off and so would any of you if that sort of thing happened to you. Ditto McGhee...
The only difference now is that, with the arrival of Anton, Reading could now compete with Wolves on the salary front if the board really want to keep Brian. Add to that the prospect of promotion this year and the further prospect of actually having money to spend to strengthen the squad in the summer and I would suggest that Wolves are a less attractive option than Reading, assuming they are both offering the manager a similar pay package.
If he does go, we may now be seriously able to attract Curbishly or similar. Football is a revolving door and the only constant is the fans and whilst i would prefer Brian to stay and finish what he started, money talks and talent walks. If Wolves offer to triple Brians salary and Reading won't match it, I would be amazed if he didn't go there.
Clearly the loyalty issue is one which is misty eyed by fans, and in the case of BM for good reason. For me though its not so much the loyalty issue itself re BM but questioning his decision making skills in all this. I had Wolves down for a bad season at the beggining, and if they are relegated it would leave BM looking a bit silly as well as the owner(s!) at RFC. I could understand it if BM had really taken RFC as far as possible, we were a mid table team and there was no more room for maneouvre in terms of finance, but the introduction of investment has (alledgly) enabled us to keep a now stable team and streghthen as necessary. I worry what TSI have had to do with this and whether visions both sides have been skewed - it is all very quiet. Back when Pards and Mcghee left in hindsight you could annoyingly understand it, we were back in Elm Park and were novices of the championship even under pards. However we are now an established champ side with premiership 'experience' (virtually as much as Wolves tbf) and with the apparent finacial muscle to start competing. If it is the' pull' of the premiership, i find it very frustrating that BM would settle for anything as long as it is premiership, the kind of thing we were facing with departing players (Doyle, Hunt to Wolves, Bikey to Burnley Sonko to Stoke as eg's) and for a vast majority of them it hasn't worked out and the grass has not been greener. If its not the lure of premiership football, i can only see something behind the scenes with TSI ownership. If BM does go, its a step back considering where we have got to as a squad and no amount of money can guarantee this rebuild.
