but ill the signing on fee is linked to performances, playing, staying up, etc

I doubt very much a signing on fee is based on performances, appearances, caps, relegation etc.

It depends if he sees out his contract. If he stays all of his contracted years then he will receive all of his 'loyalty' bonus. If he asks to leave the club then he won't receive all of this figure or if we choose to let him go to another club without him asking for a transfer then we still have to pay the remaining amount.

Either way. He'd of still been paid a large sum of money up front
