Tinrib
Thought you said 'potential for adding extra revenue earning facilities' - stadium expansion is exactly that - .

Fair point ! My original post was badly worded to convey what I meant to say ! I would say that anyone assuming a 40% growth in ticket revenue based on the extra seats is taking a very, very bullish stance. I think we're a million miles away from filling 38,000 seats for every game, especially if we think they would all be at £35 a seat...

Tinrib Significant investment in anything is very rarely based on what we know now, its more generally based on assumed potential - thats why we have so many non supporting foreigners owning English Football teams. They're hedging large cash outlays vs. potential growth.
.

Again, fair point. There are people taking a gamble which given the growth over the last decade does look a reasonable one. I think the gamble must be less attractive for clubs like us, Wigan, Fulham, Boro, Derby, Bolton (ie the ones no one has bought yet !) becasue our future in the PL is less secure and we just aren;t as big a name.
Perhaps someone will see us as a 'cheap' way of getting in the bandwagon but I'm not sure that is the sort of buyer JM wants to talk to.

Anyway much as I take everything from that site with a large pinch of salt, could this be the reason why Mr Mad has been strangely quiet of late?

Although he could also be opening a new hotel in some far flung area, or planning the launch of the Mongolian AutoTrader, or buying up Latvian printing presses....

Again, its all down to risk - Reading does- because of the huge catchment area that we cover, have significant future bums on seats potential. Moreso than Wigan/Fulham/Boro/Derby/Bolton. That is of course balanced by the fare that is served up on the pitch. On the OS in recent weeks there have been statements from SC (I think) talking about the level to which RFC would like to be associated within the PL. That being up there with the Evertons/Blackburns/Villas..But 35k for a club with our potential & reach is not pie in the sky. Note Pompy have just changed their plans for a new stadium to accomodate same numbers (35k) in their new plan..

I think an American billionaire is a good starting point for JM. Wether its down to the man on a personal level - who knows..... !

READING FC: Coppell to ring the changes

Reading's Steve Coppell is lining up a Portsmouth reunion with two January signings already in the bag.

Out of favour Pompey midifelder Matthew Taylor will join for £4 million having been demoted to the bench by Harry Redknapp.

Coppell's second signing will be Middlesbough's Gary O'Neill for £4 million. The former Popmpey midfielder who only joined Boro' in the August transfer window is keen about a return south after failing to settle in Teesside. Boro' will take a quick profit having only paid an initial £2.5 million to Portsmouth.

Coppell is known to have the promise of plenty more cash available with American Philip Anshutz's £140 million takeover of Reading FC nearing completion.

I hear we've been offered promising young fullback Greg Halford from Sunderland for a bargain £4 million and will move for him in January when Virgin boss Richard Branson's takeover is completed.

Having read all this, is there any truth whatsoever in the statement that this American bloke is interested in buying us? Has JM said anything about it?

Not that anyone is aware of, no - it's all pure speculation.

No source then. Nevertheless here's his profile.

He's a rootin' tootin' God fearing cowboy who hates gays. Just what we need.

And you wouldn;t expect much firm info until the deal is done.

Presumably it would be a 'private' sale so no need to inform Stock Exchanges or offer to buy all shares.
