Please please please go to Wigan and then they get relegated.

They've lost Palacios and now Heskey and i reckon Valencia could go soon too

Is he really off 'cos I just read this in 'Newbury Today':

Football: Royals claim there is no truth in reports of a £5 million bid for Stephen Hunt from Premiership side Wigan

READING FC are still insisting that no bids have been received for Stephen Hunt after widespread reports that Premiership Wigan have tabled a £5 million offer to tempt the Irishman away from the Madejski Stadium.

The former Brentford midfielder is believed to have a clause in his contract that allows him to speak to any club that is prepared to offer £5 million and the Latics have reportedly tabled that figure.

But that has been denied by Reading manager Steve Coppell, who branded the reports as “speculation” he could do without ahead of his side’s top-of-the-table clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

“We have had no bids received from Wigan or nobody else – it is total speculation,” Coppell insisted at a press conference yesterday (Thursday). “He is a Reading player and that is why he is training with us today.

“To be fair to him, he has made his desires known, but he fully realises that he has a challenge here and he is fully committed to that challenge.

“It is what I said before the transfer window in that I would prefer not to comment on speculation but when the speculation is so blatant and in your face, then you have to respond but it is a waste of air as far as I am concerned.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Kalifa Cisse has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal that ties him to Reading until 2011. The 25-year-old, who has established himself as a regular this season with five goals in 25 games, was contracted to Reading until next summer after signing in 2007, but he has now done enough to earn a new deal.

However, the likes of club skipper Graeme Murty and goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, who is currently being kept out of the team by Adam Federici, are set to be kept waiting for any potential new deals until the end of the season.

“Now we are in a position that until we know where we are, players whose contracts are up for renewal may have to wait until the end of the season.” Coppell added.

Yep same as Kitson was 'unwell' even though 2 days later, being shown off in Stoke. Don't always believe RFC.

I like Steve Hunt, I like his passion, his guts (he's occasionally dirty, but...) and he's scored some important goals for Reading, made a few

BUT

He's twenty-seven and a half. By the end of next season he'll be twenty-nine.

He's all about energy and chasing-chasing-chasing, a very high work-rate. Will he still manage
that work-rate out there on the wing when he's 30+ ? I doubt it.

Nobody on this list can argue that he's where he is because of an abundance of raw talent.

IF the bid becomes real and he goes, say for 5 Million, we CAN replace him with a very good winger, maybe 22-25/6 for less money

This list has a short memory. Hunty only started three games in the record-breaking season.

We could "never" replace Convey (but we did)... Kitson (but we did)... Sonko (but we did) Shorey (but we did)

Despite having affection for the player who suits the Reading ethos, I think his head gets turned every transfer window, and that must
affect the other players. It doesn't take much, just Hunty-Shorey-Kitson, 1-2 others to be 1% off their game, and we start losing too many...

Oh that already happened last year and we went down.

I say we might feel worried for a while (how do you like the idea of playing Wolves without an experienced right-back and Steve gone or his head God-knows where?)
but bank the 5 million, get another, younger, specialist winger in - there are many available for less and 5M for SH is a great price - and ever onward!

I'm actually confusing myself over whether I want this transfer to go through. On the one hand, 5 mill is alot of money for a player who has been thoroughly average since we entered December, but on the other his departure may well disrupt the squad, as well as depriving us of an international player.

All in all, if Hunt really wants to go, as it would now appear (judging by SSC's comments in that press conference) then we would be better off selling him, as it is clear his heart is no longer in it, and without heart Shunt is very, very average.

What use is that stat when SSC only makes his substitutions when we're winning, and there's only 9 minutes left to play?

Wolves must be loving this speculation that SHunts agent has been creating, desperate to try to get somebody, anybody, to stump up £5m for his player.

He's getting desperate, just over a week left in the window and nobody is biting.

I am officially bored of SHunt.

Hunt definitely won't join Wigan. It's hardly career progression.

It would actually be a huge risk for Hunt to leave guarunteed first team football at a club that will be in the Premier League next season and will guaruntee first team football for Hunt in the Premier League than join a declining side that cannot guaruntee Premier League football, play in half empty stadiums and will just as likely be in the Championship within 2 years.

If I was Hunt and was just a footballer and not a Reading supporter then I would stay with Reading.

I would only leave Reading to take a chance at Everton. Everton is the only side that Hunt should leave Reading to join. He'll never get a game at Spurs, Newcastle or Villa. He has his best chance of achieving his footballing ambitions at Everton. And that is only if he is good enough for Everton. Because he may not be.

Overall, he is best off staying at Reading from a football perspective. But I won't blame him if he wants to test himself at a club like Everton.
