FWIW, the Milan laboratory of eternal youth probably puts Inzaghi at about 33/34 compared with your typical, washed up late 30-something.

last time he was any good was in 2009...he is past his prime unfortunately. luckily, i dont believe for a SECOND bm or nh would want him considering his age and form as of late.

I'm prepared to be shot down in flames should this deal actually happens, but I suspect the SSN story is indicative of the fact that we are in the Premier League now, and any old rubbish rumour - even those eminating from outside the UK - linking a Prem club with a player will be re-cycled.

And this is a rubbish rumour because Inzaghi simply doesn't fit the profile of the sort of player that this football club gets in.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up - if anywhere in England (and I'm not sure why he would come here at 38 anyway) - at Watford, as the new Italian owners try to make a statement for the folks back home.

Strikes me as more of a West Ham type signing than a Reading one.

To all those saying about signing older players who are "past their prime" - just think of Inzaghi as the level up from Jason Roberts.

I'd consider him another option, someone who can come in every now and again and make a bit of difference

Yes but for a reported £1m one year deal, is it really worth it?

Off the top of my head, I can't remember us ever having an Italian player. If that's the case, it would be worth us signing him just so we can continue in our attempt to have had a player from every country in the United Nations.

TheSiege Please do not get so wound-up about names or past glories! RFC do not need any 38-year-olds picking up their last few bucks. If rules said that under-21's and over-35's did'nt count in the 25-man squad then fine - Otherwise this is a relegation signing! We do need a 20-goal a season striker to put alonside the Pog and it will NOT be Owen, Inzaghi, Bull, Matthews or Grunt!

I am going to stay calm and not react to this but..

You FUKKING spacktard! Are you so far removed from the reality of football, and life in general, that you really think we need a 20 goal a season striker to GO ALONGSIDE Pog!? Do the 17 teams that stay up have this!? Do you know how many players scored more than 20 goals in the Premier League last season? Do you!? DO YOU!? DO YOU!?!!??! 3, that's how many, 3 you imbecilic piece of sputum. Go fukk yourself with a broom handle and then stick wire coathangers in your eyes. PRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRICK.

Fair point, but on the other hand realistically for the rumoured salary we were going to be paying him across one season, can you realistically expect him to be involved in the majority of our games this year? Probably not however I would be quite happy to see him come on for the last 10-15 minutes of a match if we were chasing a goal. Apart from that I think we'd be asking a lot of a 37 year old to feature in so many games.

The deal is reckoned to be £1,000,000 which is about £20,000 pw. Doesn't seem too much. Rather than pass my own worthless opinion, I'll leave it to BMcD to decide. If he thinks he's worth it, then that's good enough for me.

We've already saved tonnes of money by signing 3 good players on a free - so for a £1 million punt - for a year - I think this could be a goer. But won't exactly be distraught if it doesn't go through.
