mumbo-jumbo Club will let him go for anything close or over 5 mil

Where have you plucked that figure from and what are you basing it on ? He's worth a lot more than that I would have thought. Keepers are the most important players on the pitch - Nige says so, so it must be true.[/quote]

Based on the club

Value increases with each game he plays.

Probably not. We could replace him with an adequate 'keeper for much, much less than that - if we don't already have one in the squad.

But he's destined to be an absolutely great 'keeper - destined for the very top so I hope the money we get reflects that. I doubt it will, though ....

we need to keep him next season, even if it means sell and loan back

That brings its own problem, though. Get promoted with McCarthy's efforts and we then suddenly need to acquire a PL-standard 'keeper from scratch. Expensive and risky.

makes no sense to me. sell a player who WILL be worth 10 million in two years, for a couple of million and replace with bang average keeper cos thats all we need..........
daft

Agreed with that. But in today#s football, we don't have a choice of when to sell him. We do on paper, but in the real world we don't - if he's decided he wants to go, then we've lost him and it's just a question of getting as much as we can for him. I don't want him to ever, ever leave - but it's inevitable that he will.

there are plenty of examples of players wanting to leave, but being kept
if i were him i would take 1st choice at reading for a couple of years, rather than go and sit on a bench in the prem.
literally no one decent is going to come in and make him their number 1. so i dont think its that much of a worry unless he is more interested in money than his career.

probably wrong though

I think I'd take the bigger pay-check.

But then I'm quite lazy really. More money, less work = Bonus.

McCarthy has tweeted he wants to stay.

Reading FC News ‏@ReadingFC__News
Alex McCarthy "The main thing for me personally is playing regular and I am so happy at #readingfc. I want to enjoy the break and come back"

Good news. Just hope that the club don't sell when the offers come in.

Why? Feds did a fine job when we gained promotion.

Totally stupid and not thought out comment.

He's welcome to Pearce, whilst I'd have loved him to stay here, he's a thoroughly :| signing for Liverpool.

McCarthy should do another year or so with us and then go and be 1st choice at Utd, supplanting Joe "occasional clanger" Hart in the England set up.

Nonsense. They've been looking for a replacement or back-up to push him all season! McCarthy is an obvious media link since his performance against them last month, and since.

Agreed-he needs at least another season off full game time-he won't get that in the Prem unless he signs for one of the walking dead teams.

Alex should start as first choice next season. If, at the end of next season Reading do not gain promotion, then I would expect him to go to a PL club to further his ambitions and career. But he has to start as first choice.
