MouldyRoyal If he leaves Soton, do you really think another Prem team wouldn't come in for the highest scoring Englishman in the prem last season? He'd be an upgrade for all 3 of the promoted teams for a start.

I was pondering this thought on the Gary Hooper thread but it could also be relevant here. I was wondering if a (hopefully!!) Top class Championship side where you would play and score week in, week out, would be a more attrractive proposition for a forward than one of the three teams coming up? I could see both Palace and Hull being ripped to threads, and I'm not all that sure about Cardiff either. Is it really beneficial to be showcasing your talents in a division where the lack of quality around you denies you chances or scoring opportunities. May be a naive (and extremely hopeful!!) viewpoint but it did set me thinking.

This rumour may have some legs - the mirror say we are in for him.

I literally face-palmed when I read this.

Maybe your right though. We all know newspapers will only write things that are true.

While I'm excited at the arrivals so far, and almost a little giddy at the prospect of the forthcoming season given that we have a much stronger squad now than we did last season, Lambert would be a most excellent signing that would surely raise expectations of a top two finish.

Some trimming would have to happen, too, and I would expect Pog to be on his way to Russia.

think we only have a slightly stronger side than last season. Williams may be a bit of a journeyman player and whilst Drenthe could be exciting he may well be very unpredictable with brilliant games interspersed with nowhere to be seen games. Bridge is a sound signing. If we lose a couple of our best players we may well be a weaker side. Dont share the positivity yet.

My son just called me all excited to say he'd heard on TalkSport we are about to sign him.

Mind you, humble pie would rarely have tasted so good....

How is Williams a journeyman at 24?

Whilst I don't really read too much into pre-season friendlies, and I am not sure if how good a like-for-like comparison Friday's friendly was, the fact that we turned a 1-1 draw last year into a 5-1 win this, with a very good performance by all accounts, is a positive sign I would hope.

I was going to say how can he be journeyman? We are only the third club he's played for. McAnuff is a journeyman by definition.

Hmm, nice one. I'm almost convinced he's coming now!

(Hadn't realised he is 32...)

I was saying we should sign him when he was scoring for fun at Bristol Rovers so I'd love it to happen, but just can't see it at all, so am filing this under aimless speculation.

Daily Echo picking it up as their main story. Focusing on him going when big name striker comes in.
