Well, yeah, Reading were somehow stronger without him in the side this season, weren't they?

its just that if he was under contract i doubt we would have got 5 million for him

he spends a year on the bench and fails totally to get even a squad place
and now hes worth 7?
just seems odd

BBC Gossip Column reckons he's off for £5m.

Steve Sidwell will complete his £5m move from Chelsea to Aston Villa before the end of the week. (Various)

I think it's a fair deal for all involved.

I did hear something on Sky about him having to half his wages to make the move though!

you would have to say after the money Chelski spent on him that getting him in and selling on for £5M + was a tidy bit of business

If what I know about players contracts is correct, as long as he's not asked for a transfer, Chelski will need to pay up a sizeable chunk of the difference between his remaining contract and whatever Villa offer. That's a bit of a no-brainer for Sid since he'll get that money up front !!

He obviously will need the extra cash as I'm sure the cost of nappies is not coming down.

Villa agree Sidwell fee;

Aston Villa have agreed a £5.5million deal for Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell.

The former Reading star only moved to Stamford Bridge last summer on a free transfer, but he was unable to force a regular place in Chelsea's first XI.

And after only seven Premier League starts for the Blues, Sidwell has been offered a move to Villa Park.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen to bolster his small squad as he attempts to build a side capable of a top-six Premier League finish next season.

But, Sidwell, 25, could also be viewed as a possible replacement for Villa captain Gareth Barry, who is a transfer target of Liverpool.

All worked perfectly for Sidwell and Chelsea. Reading = Murked.

Sidwell got a year of playing at CHelsea on great money, now he will play regularly for a very good club, Chelsea made £5.5million profit on him. Reading = Murked.

No they didn't. There was a huge signing on fee plus his extrotionate wages for a year plus his payoff (he hasn't asked for a transfer). He had 3 years left on his contract at Chelsea so the payoff will be large (it was reported a couple of weeks ago that he had demanded £3m).

Bought for nowt, £5,5million sold for pretty good business.

But even so Reading were much better without him

You don't get it - he has cost them as much as that so in real terms they aren't going to see the £5.5m.

One of the most annoying things amongst football fans are those fans who think free signings are free. They aren't. They get bigger signing on fees and bigger wages, and yes I do know that for a fact.

The other annoying thing is fans who think they know EVERYTHING about their club, WR ;)

No doubt he got a decent signing on fee and was on a good wage, for Chelsea the wage would have almost certainly been one of if not the lowest wage to anyone in their senior, and they are selling him for £5.5million.

Chelsea had a decent player for next to nothing, they've sold him for a very large fee. Happy Days.

Poor old Reading.
