Apparently the local radio in the North East is reporting that Sunderland will sign 2 players by Friday and one of them is expected to be Kevin Doyle.

For anything in that region of money, and I would hope we get the full amount upfront, absolute bargain and good business.

Unlikely, I don;t think any transfers are full cash up front deals. At the very least the payments are staged, even if there are no conditions around appearances and league places attached.

When you say 'bargain', are you saying it woul dbe a bargain for Sunderland at £7.5 million ?

"Keane will therefore step up his interest in Doyle as part of a double deal with Stephen Hunt. Although the Black Cats were forced to admit defeat in their protracted attempts to sign left-winger Hunt from Reading in January, the Royals’ relegation has altered the equation.

Hunt is almost certain to be sold this summer as Reading adjust to life outside the Premier League. Lumping Doyle into a deal will allow them to disguise their new valuation of Hunt if it is less than the £5m they rejected in January.

Doyle joined Reading from Cork City in 2005 and hit 37 League goals since – 19 of them in the top flight .

Sunderland’s need for a striker has intensified since the cruciate knee ligament damage suffered by Jones in a collision with England’s David James while playing for his country last month. While a date is yet to be set for his return, their are fears it may not be until 2009."

Anyone thinking £7.5million for a striker who scored 5? 6? goals is a bargain must be Roy Keane. That would be gr8 business for Reading.

That's rubbish.
Firstly it makes it sound like we're only throwing Doyle in to avoid it looking like we've sold Hunt for less than we could have done in January !
Secondly given that there is a sell on clause for Cork there will have to be a seperate valuation on Doyle anyway. We can;t do a 'two for one' deal !

What about for one that scored 13 league goals?

I think 7.5million is a good price for Reading, although we'll find it very very hard to replace Doyle. A fair market price would probably be around 6m+

We can for the eyes of the press and the fans though.

It's more like an undisclosed fee but we give them an idea of the money involved.

If it's a simple 'undisclosed' then the original comment is just as meaningless as we could just sell Hunt for an 'undisclosed' fee, no need to throw Doyle in as a smokescreen !

Ah well, we're selling our best players but at least Coppell's staying.

Save our Steve!

Are we ? Who's been sold so far?

Derby have sold some of their better players.

Birmingham have sold some of their better players.

And Reading have sold no-one. Yet.

It's intreguing that on the one hand we're supposed to be in need of new players, and on the other we not allowed to get rid of any we already have !
Whether we stayed up or not it was inevitable some players would move on, most of our first team have already been atthe club longer than your average player stays put.

But of course any stick is useful for the one eyed man to beat Coppell with !

We can sell Hunt and Harper as we don't need either of them and use the money to bring in players we need. Of course that would be the intelligent thing to do though, meaning Coppell won't do it.
