Matt de K West Bromwich Albion Football Club are pondering a January swoop for Leroy Lita.

The striker is currently on loan at Norwich City, yet Reading are likely to take him back in the New Year as they look to sell him in order to raise some funds.

Tony Mowbray is desperately seeking more firepower following the long-term injury to Ishmael Miller, and reports suggest he will table an offer of £3million for Lita.

“We will wait and see,” said the Baggies boss of the transfer window.

Errrrrrr, Deal

lol yeah right £3mill for a player who will be a free agent come summer dont make me laugh maybe thats £3mill combined offer for Lita and S.HUNT or maybe even Long really clear us out up front.

If Mowbray thinks he'd be a good fit and has the quality to keep them up it's not completely unbelievable. They need a striker now, not at the end of the season when they've been relegated.

Ridiculous money. I don't think he should be worried about losing his fingers or hand offering that amount. We're more likely to take the whole arm in our excitment!

I think West Brom would certainly be interested given that their other strikers are Bednar (4 from 16) and Millar (3 from 15). If they can get a quick couple of wins around Xmas, it is certainly in their hands.

And Miller is out for the season.

West Bromwich Albion prepare Lita compromise
20:05 December, 16, 2008
West Bromwich Albion Football Club are preparing a package deal for Leroy Lita.

Reading are prepared to let the striker leave in the New Year, but they want a fee of around £3million for the former England Under-21 international and the Baggies, frankly, are skint.

However, Tony Mowbray hopes to persuade the Royals to let Lita leave on loan for the rest of the season, and if his side avoid relegation, a fee of £5million will be paid for the permanent transfer.

"If we can find a clinical cutting edge then that will make a difference," Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail. "We need to find someone with the desire, the hunger, the ability to score goals.

"If we do then I think we will have a fighting chance. If we can't find that then we will struggle because we won't score enough goals. There is no money. Who will give you a Premier League striker on loan?"

About as likely as a contract that says "if he scores 150 by the end of the season, you get £5m, if not then you get nothing...".

Personally, I'd accept £1.5m easy...

It just makes me laugh that these websites get complete idiots to write these articles in the first place. £5m in the summer for an out of contract player..........................

This is a joke, he wants a loan deal as they have no money, why the hell would we let him go out on loan when his contract ends in the summer? Its a fee or nothing!!

If someone offers a fee I'm sure we'll allow Leroy to talk to them. If not, keeping him off the wage bill (and out of the dressing room) is enough of a positive for SC for this to be possible.

We are all forgetting something with regard to Lita - it was Mr Mad that paid for the transfer with £1m of his own money!

Therefore, there is no way we are going to let him go for nothing at the end of the season; the MINIMUM Mr Mad would want is £1.5M (to take into account interest etc) and I wouldn't be at all surprised if all of that money goes straight back to Mr Mad.

Another investment opportunity?

Mr Mad's money doesn't mean much - just means it wasn't a bank loan; the club still 'owes' him £1million. The player doesn't 'belong' to MrMad as that would be against FL rules ...

True, but he can buy the player and gift him to the club; ie it was his money but the club actually own the contract (and hence the player).

Yes, I suspect that if that were the case and we were found guilty of it then points would be deducted......

I'm not sure the Earth could survive Spacey's anti West Ham rant if that happened.

On 'The championship' this morning I thought the commentator said that a fee of £300k would secure a move to Norwich which would be a bargain.

It was a great goal to be fair and I think that will put his price up yet again. A lot of teams will be desperate for a striker in January. I am hoping we may get 2 or 3 million now let alone £300K.
