Press conference at 5.15. Apparently, we are signing Tommy Smith as well.

Hoop Blah What conditions does he need to be able to consistently control the ball, pass it to a team mate, make a decent effort to tackle now and again, head the ball with some conviction and technique or just keep the ball on the pitch and not shin it out of play?

What do you think was so different to McD's use of him (apart from giving him a bit of confidence) to both Coppell and Rodgers? Players often have streaky runs of form where everything clicks for them. For the better players those streaks become the norm, for those who aren't quite good enough those purple patches stick out like sore thumbs in otherwise disappointing careers (like John Mackie for example).

Just for the record, I didn't say we should get rid of him, I said that I wouldn't be too fussed if he actually left. Slight, but significant difference really.

I suspect having a solid, experienced full back behind him was the key.

Means he doesn't have to bother with the tackling bit, and why would we want him to head the ball (we never complained that Little didn;t).

Plus having a manager who believed in him and just gave him a simple job to do. Looks like McD understands the sort of player kebe is and the job he can do (I'm not sure you do though !!)

And I don;t think the difference is at all significant in your comment. It's a bizarre thing to come up with IMHO !!

It was patently obvious he was a talented player who hadn't got things right in his head. McD sorted that and provided the support to let him do what he's good at.

I know perfectly well the type of player he is.

Furthermore I don't expect wingers to be dogged workaholics who tackle like a terrier or head the ball like a centre half. I do expect them to be able to make an effort to do either and not pull out of a challenge that's their's to make though.

Little was totally adequate in his heading and tackling, he also had better than the required ability to do the creative bits of the game that he excelled at. You very rarely saw him mis-control a ball, let alone totally miss it. He hardly ever sliced a ball out of play, got his delivery totally wrong or tackled himself trying to perform pretty much his one and only trick like Kebe does.

Little was the best winger I've seen play for Reading and I don't expect Kebe to come close to him. I do expect him to be a lot more consistent in the things he should be good at whilst also having the basic fundamentals in his locker. Partly that's just because I prefer technically proficient players, consitent performers and those that I think are willing to do their shift for the team, and partly it's because I don't think Kebe is good enough to do his thing consistently.

As for you not being able to see the difference between not being fussed if he leaves and actively looking to get rid of him because I think he should go....

I think the appropriate internet phrase is meh!

I will be a bit sorry to see Cisse go but if we get £500K I would say it is a good move for both parties. Coppell obviously rates him and his problem here is that although he is an adequate CM he is not as good as Tabb, Howard, Karacan or Gunnar - all of which I would put on the team sheet before him. Think many have been hard on Cisse as he has never had a really extended run - although he started 24 times or so in 2008/9 when we were fourth so he cannot be that bad.

The fact that he was our only real cover at CB worries me a bit and makes me fairly sure that we will recruit another experienced CB - hopefully Khiz permanently - or another similar player on long term loan.

As for you not being able to tell the difference between me SEEING the difference and thinking it was not of any significance.....

Meh (whatever that is supposed to mean) back to you......

I'll just go with my original thought that your comment was not really thought out and you aren't able to back down having taken an untenable stance.

So that's £1.1million in now that will go straight into filling up the £4million hole we've got. Just need to find another £3million now....

Think what you like, no skin off my nose.

End of the day I don't really rate Kebe as he's not my type of player and I don't think he has it in him to be consistently good enough to be a real threat at this level. I don't get a lot of enjoyment out of watching his style of player so I'm really not be fussed if we lose him.

I should have worded that as 'you seeing the significance' then...my apologies for not being specific enough!!!

Remember we save their wages as well so if they were on £10k each then that's a saving of about £1million too. (Not including taxes)

I'd pretty much agree with everything you said there. But with a slightly more hopeful outlook on whether he can perform.

I don't think he'll be a huge loss next season when it seems he'll inevitably be off. I too don't think h will keep up to the form of teh end of last season. But I do think he does offer us something useful and will produce goals even if he can't match that level of quality.

It will just be horrendus to watch him fluff up again and again and again. Because he'll always create chances and run at players.

Stick in another 10k from the crappy shirt sales, and we're onto a winner...

He's got two more years on his contract so I think he'll be with us next season, and probably the season after that too.

Take it from people who saw him play, on form from Xmas on wards he'd be hugely missed.
Can't believe the armchair fans rate McAnuff at £2 million and see Kebe as disposable !!!

I saw him thanks. He was fantastic. The point being the doubt whether he can refind or maintain that form.

There is a difference in rating someone at £2m and thinking we should refuse to sell him for less than that. And I've also said that McAnuff would be replaceable.

I'd respectfully suggest that it is simply premature, and perhaps even showboating a little, to work on the basis that one of our best players of last season may not be as good as he was last.

On the evidence available to state he'd be no great loss is a statement that deserves to be challenged.

And there is no difference at all in rating someone at a price and saying we should get that for him. A player is valued at what you can sell him for.

To say a player is replaceable is simply stating the obvious. Every player in the history of the game has been replaceable.
