UpNorth Spurs in the Mirror today say they want at least £10m for Defoe.

looks a bit of budget buster to me.

£10million plus £60k a week in wages! I seriously doubt we will get Defoe.

I seriously think they'll have a job moving him on based on those figures.

Ian Royal
KDRF You lot are deluded both ways. Firstly he's a class act and would guarentee us 10-15 goals which could potentially keep us up. Which secondly means, we aren't getting him. None of our strikers could get 10-15 in chamionship let alone prem.

ALF - 2011/12 Championship - 32 apps, 12 goals.
Church - 2009/10 Championship - 37 apps, 10 goals.
Jason Roberts - 2011/12 Championship - 17 apps, 6 goals - definitely capable of 10 - 15 on that form.
2004/05 Championship - 45 apps, 21 goals
Noel Hunt - 2010/11 Championship - 33 apps, 10 goals
2008/09 Championship - 37 apps, 11 goals
Pavel Progebnyak - 2011/12 Premier League - 12 apps, 6 goals - well capable of 10 over a season.

Still, in all ways other than anything resembling facts, it's an excellent point well made.

8)

Exactly he specifically said `None of our strikers could get 10-15 in chamionship `

Which is a factually incorrect comment

TheSiege
Ups and Downs Brian sounds like he might be ITK, but his posturing and then deliberate teasing makes me think that he's little better than bigmike.

There are two ITK people that I am aware of on HNA, One is Fridays_Legacy and one is TheSiege. Other contributers have been ITK for specific deals when they happen to have been lucky. TheSiege always watched this forum but only joined today and Fridays_Legacy. as far as I am aware , has been a mine of info as long as you read what he actually says! I cannot remember when he has been incorrect in his assessments!

Furthermore, I used to pick a drunken Robin Fiday off of the floor - I am that old! He is a folklore hero but, for those of us who both knew and saw him, he was better than you have been told. And don't even get me started about Jimmy Whitehouse.

Who is this The Siege chap of which you speak? He sounds great.

Really cant see this one happening, and i wouldn`t really want him. Not our type of player. Would rather have Jordan Rhodes.

But interesting if he was actually at the training ground

I would eat my words if we do sign him and he bangs in 15+

Deal off. Been asked to say little more but it's down to wages. Our ceiling is approx £45k a week and it's a fair chunk more than that.

Simpson also apparently off.

Reason for the Simpson deal being off?

Who knows if we were serious or not, but we agreed a fee and spoke to Defoe. No idea about Simpson. My assumption is wages.

Sounds like Mariappa and a RB could conclude our summer ins:

• With a fee already agreed, he hopes to conclude a deal for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa in time for the pre-season trip to Portugal.

• The club have another offer in place for one more player, which would probably be the end of our inward business for the summer.

• He rejected speculation linking us with Spurs' England international Jermain Defoe.

Speaking to the media after our friendly with AFC Wimbledon, he said, "We've signed a few players, we're trying to get two more in and once we've done that we'll be done and dusted.

"I've been asked [by the press] about Mariappa, we've got a formality to finalise, once that's complete we're hopeful we'll get him done and dusted very early in the week and he'd be coming with us to Portugal.

"He's a fantastic character, he's done really well for Watford over a long period and for a young man he has played a lot of games. He's got good pace, and he'll fit into what we're trying to do here, like all the new signings have.

"We've also made an offer for another player, that has been ongoing for a number of weeks. Can I give you a name? No not right now but he's in England and we've targeted him for a number of weeks. We're hopeful we can get it done."

Lastly, asked about Defoe he said, "Jermaine Defoe is a terrific player, but he's a Tottenham player and I don't think he'll be coming to Reading."

So far this summer Brian has signed Pavel Pogrebnyak, Danny Guthrie, Garath McCleary and Nicky Shorey, as well as Irish youngster Pierce Sweeney.

This deal has been dead for a long time now.

As for Simpson, he was never our priority target for right back, suggestion is that we expect to have someone else in who McDermott would prefer to Simpson if that is off, and the Gunter rumour resurfacing would support that.

Gonna go up the bookies in a minite after the lunchtime rush is over and ask for my money back on this one. I'm only 75% sure it's going to happen now.
