2 world wars, 1 world cup melonhead Extended-Phenotype People seem to forget that, if we stay up - we get a f/ck load of money. If we go down - we get a f/ck load of money.
Despite what the club secret police will have you believe, it is safe to spend money on players.
i believe that if you check the accounts from last time we were up and had a shed load of money, and when we were relegated and got a shed load of money
pretty much all of it went on wages and we were still forced to sell our best players to try and fill that gap, making some big losses over the next couple of years
but dont let the facts get in the way ofr an E_P rant
If we stay up we get £80million straight up from SKY
Plus another £20mill from sponsor deal
Plus £25mill from the FA
Add to that the approximate figure if £30mill from other income and you're talking
A TOTAL OF £190MILLION AT LEAST
I didn't realise buying Tom Ince would guarantee us safety and £190M in the bank, oh wait, it doesn't.
A club like Reading cannot survive paying silly wages, especially in the Championship, given how low our income is. This £8M we're potentially about to spunk on a talent unproven in the PL could pay the wages of our key players in the current squad for next season if we were to get relegated. For my money, having the majority of our current squad is a stronger position to be in than have to sell half our current squad to facilitate an £8M 'star' player that, hypothetically, didn't add a great deal to the squad because we still got relegated.
Don't get me wrong, he probably would do well for us and £8M is hardly the be all and end all, but given how prudent we've always been, this seems a bit reckless.
