McDermott probably knows him very well. If West Brom were looking to flog him, he'd be worth a look, even if we went up.

If Doyle came back here - he'd be brilliant - McD always gets the best out of his talented players - he'd feel much happier being back here and still being a legend than I suspect he currently is at Wolves. Bring him back and ship out Church + one other I say.

Why would you want a player back who 'did one' as soon as you were relegated?

I really loved watching Doyle play for us but I am not sure the "going back" thing ever works that well. When a player has done well for a club we all remember the great things they did and when the player comes back they seldom seem quite as good as they were.

There is too much expectation of the player being and I would rather we bring in a younger promising player like Rhodes myself.

It's about circumstances. Most times it happens we'll have them whislt they are proving their quality, they go elsewhere and either disappoint or play at their peak, before returning to us on the downward spiral.

Our current circumstances mean that profile doesn't really apply. Especially with the suggested players. Gylfi - 22, Bertrand - 22, Long - 25, Doyle - 28. Doyle is the oldest and in theory he is in the prime of his playing years. Gylfi and Bertrand have their best ahead of them and Long is approaching his peak now.

It is ALL about the circumstance of the return and where the player is at in their career. Kitson was nobbled by injury and ageing, Little was nobbled by injury and over the hill. Both were stepping down, rather than sideways.

He's more than good enough to come back to Reading. Just because he's had a bit of a tough 6 months at Wolves doesn't mean he can't regain the form and consistency that made him such a good player.

Things obviously weren't right at Wolves and there are a lot of players there who weren't or aren't playing to the full. With that in mind I wouldn't hold Doyles slump against him (he was also played out of position a fair bit too remember).

I'm not 100% sure he'd be the right forward for us next season (depending on how McDermott would want us to play). I don't know why but I have a feeling we might see a return to playing 1 upfront a bit more. Doyle was never the best for that role due to not quite having enough pace (Long was better at in the end) and so he'd possibly be in the same boat that he finds himself at Wolves. As one of 4 or 5 options upfront then Doyle would be better than any of our current forwards for next season should we get promoted.

Hunt has done quite well alongside Roberts. Just imagine what Doyle could do if we paired the two as he shares Hunts workrate but marries it with a much better touch and technique and he's a better finisher as well (I think Roberts will need to be further down the pecking order as well though).

Strange question after the elation of last night. But, with Wolves coming down, would you resign the Doylster? Premier league experience, young enough, fits into the Reading way. Think he would be a useful addition. Just putting it out there. Of course would never sign Stephen Hunt!
