Surely he has better options.

I find this baffling.

Presumably, MU would not want him going to a rival Prem team. If he came to us a) we are not really a rival as far as the Prem title goes (no, honestly, let's not kid ourselves!), but b) he could score goals against, and help take points from, genuine rivals.

Surely they'd rather he was scoring goals and winning games with them instead, he is pretty high up their pecking order. I can't see this one happening.

But I'd be very impressed if we pull this off.

Would do him no harm at all: would get to start games at least with no risk to him if we go down.

Would do us good: a sensible bit of money spent for a short time only. If we stay up, it pays. If not at least we gave it a shot without breaking the bank.

It's not outside the realms of possibility and would be a good move for all concerned.

But Sir John is still involved. Well get a couple more cheapies and go down with a whimper.

The old days, when we only heard about our deals when they were (almost) done and dusted and in between we complained that nothing seemed to be happening and what was the club playing at?

Or now, where we keep getting raised expectations (Arshavin, Huddlestone, etc) and people promising to jizz their pants, only for hopes to be dashed

Probably the latter as long as we end up with someone really good!

Why would UTD let one of there four strikers leave, when they are still in various competitions. Not going to happen. I will say it again, we need to invest in some creativity for the midfield, this is crucial.

Times running same story. Ferguson has enough in the squad up top. At the very least, for all those having a wobble recently who are underwhelmed with the club's activity so far, this looks like intent...

And perhaps that's the point. The day after a negative storm about the club's perceived lack of ambition when they sign a player from Crawley to help them stay in the premier league this story appears. Win win for the club's PR machine as there is no prospect of Welbeck coming here, but it shuts up the naysaers who say we lack ambition.

United have been linked with a move for Lewandowski. I think if United signed him, they'd have four strikers ahead of Welbeck. In a 4-3-3, that would leave him a long way from playing, in the 4-4-2 diamond they sometimes use he'd be a lot closer but still a long way off.

I can't see it, but I might get my hopes up if United signed another world class striker.
