Although if you read the actual article (I can't get on twitter in the office to post the image here) it's the same quote as used elsewhere about McCarthy and looks like it's Jonathan Low sensationalising it.

Butland went to Chelsea for £8m wasn't it, and with zero Premiership experience. Reading are more than entitled to ask for £9m onwards. If no one takes him for that, great. We don't want to sell anyway.

Stoke for £3.5m. Butland's 3 years younger and has now played a full season of Championship games, more matches than McCarthy's played in the last 3 years.

I was way off there, apologies. Still, at 23 and with some PL xp behind him, there's no way I would let him go for anything less than say £8m. We don't want to sell, we don't have to sell, so anyone wanting him can break the bank to get him!

The media are obviously looking to get a story out of him, so they will be prepared to skew his worlds a little bit.
