If we go up, we'll move for Wayne

Can't be any worse than Simon Church and we hardly have a bulging transfer budget so why not? Many whined about Noel Hunt coming here from Scotland and barring his niggling injuries he proved a decent enough signing.
This is of course on the basis we don't go up.

Rooney scored his first goal for Stoke against Reading on 17 April 2006. In only his second full start for Stoke City, he scored a hat-trick against already relegated Brighton in the final fixture of the 2005–06 season to become Stoke's youngest ever hat-trick scorer (Stanley Matthews was the previous holder).

Also been on loan at Yeovil.

Thanks Wiki

Thought this when I saw the SPL goals on SSN yesterday - wouldn't be a bad move if we don't go up IMHO.

If we get him then I'll trust McDermott's and Hammond's opinions over most of ours, including my own. He has a good track record for finding a decent player for low cost.

Church will come good nxt season imo. N.Hunt hasn't done it for me. He works hard and isn't a bad finisher but lacks quality. You need the extra bit of quality if you want to be playing at the highest level and for me he hasn't shown that.

I've been thinking this. 2009-10 was very good for a kid. 12 goals in 27 (15)

With this season - - 4 in 16 (26) that's 16 goals in 43 (43) - - - about 50 x 90, or 1 goal in 3 games.

He's two years younger than Shane, who got 3 Prem goals and 9 Championship goals = 12 Goals in 25 (48) = 33 x 90

12 in 33 versus 16 in 50. That makes Shane a little better at the same age (but this season has been poor for Simon)
but Church, only 22 has room to mature and improve, just as Shane did.

I feel next season will be make or break for Church. If Long goes will he become first choice up front or will BMcD go for either Manset or Williams?

Dunno is my confident reply.

I think a lot of Church's problems are in his head. Unless he's carrying a secret niggle
it makes little sense that he's been so (relatively) poor this season. One possibility
is that he expected to be the main man and couldn't hack Shane getting the role.

I do remember the crowing when he was Number 9.

Or (maybe?) it's down in part to the service. He worked with Gylfi
who gelled better with him, perhaps.

Is there such a thing as second-season syndrome for young players?

Adam Rooney
Out of contract at Inverness, Rooney has had a fantastic season breaking the 20 goal barrier for the second successive season. Terry Butcher has gotten the best out of him and it remains to be seen if he will accept their offer of a new deal as talks continue. Has been linked with moves to Young Boys in Switzerland as well as Reading and Derby, I think he does go it will be back to the Championship. Reading would be a good choice given the work Brian McDermott has done on Shane Long.

Where will he be in August: Reading.

i think this has been mentioned previously, but anyway, yeah why not? lets be realistic about the budgets we have here and our sights are set a lot lower than the imaginative fans on here (waghorn for 2m for example). if mcdermott likes him and chooses to bring him here than that'll do for me.
