RUMOUR - Roger Johnson

by HoneyRoastHoax » 09 May 2012 10:56

@Signings_TDD The roumor has it that #wolves have agreed to sell defender Roger Johnson til #Readingfc .

Good player but a little bit of a jynx on teams!

Roger Johnson (born 28 April 1983 in Ashford, Surrey)[1] is an English footballer who plays as a defender for Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Johnson began his career with Wycombe Wanderers, where he spent six years as a professional. He then joined Welsh side Cardiff City in 2006 for £275,000. He was part of the team that reached the 2008 FA Cup Final and was twice chosen as the club's Player of the Year in his three year stint with the club. He signed for Birmingham City in 2009 for £5m. He was part of the team that went on a club record 12 match unbeaten run and that won the 2011 Football League Cup Final. He departed Birmingham in 2011 after their relegation from the Premier League to join Midlands neighbours Wolverhampton Wanderers.

I'd be surprised if we go near him seeing as it was reported that he turned up to training drunk this season.

Hope this one isn't true. If ever there was a player who used to be good but is now shit, it is him.

He is a large part of the reason Wolves have been relegated. Brought in and immediately installed as captain (that was Mick McCarthy's error) and has been a disruptive influence all season.

I seriouly hope there is no truth in this.

Was quality for Birmingham. If McDermott could sort his head out (like he did with Mills) then he would be an excellent addition

Indeed, and the comment about turning up for training drunk. (twice). Not a Reading player and I hope never will be.

I agree with all your comments about him turning up to training drunk. However he is a very good player on his day. I think like Kevin Doyle and many others in the Wolves team his performances greatly suffered from being in a very poor struggling team that fast lost confidence after a great start to the season if you remember.

The fact he never really felt at home whilst at Wolves must of also effected his performances and confidence too I know how that one feels! Would be a good buy if bmd could work his magic but on the other hand don't think he adds anything to our defence that we are lacking already. If we need a defender surely we should be focussing on the full back areas first and get some experience down that right hand side now Griff has left!

Love how people say a player is dump based on one bad season look at Pobregneyak for Fulham or however you spell it. He was going through an awful patch at Stuttgart. Suddenly hit form after a move to London. Don't think people realise how good bmd is at bringing in out of form players or ones that are rotting in the reserves and then getting the best out of them. If we did bring Roger in the off chance ... Mcdermott will get the best out of him no doubt about it. He has said before he will only bring in players that can add to what they already have in the squad!

True, but in fairness to Rocastle he was suffering from a previously un-diagnosed illness that eventually claimed his life.

Don't know why it has all gone wrong for Johnson but he has been absolutley abysmal this season. Other posters have mentioned drinking; I have no idea whether this is the problem or not.

Think Johnsons strength was the man he was playing next to @ Brum - Scott Dann - a great CB pairing, bit like Ivar / Sonks etc

I think that is a major difference between BMcD and Coppell, I never understood how signing someone and then ignoring then is meant to motivate them. Although with Emerse Fae's inflated opinion of himself that was perhaps an understandable exception.

all about the interpretation, but as i saw it coppellos reasoning seemed to be:

these players have just got 106 points, and finished in 8th- they will be rewarded for that with regular games, and extra money
new players coming in, no matter how expensive, or high profile will have to compete in training/games with those other players, and only when they have proven they are better will they warrant a regular starting place
any player who isnt willing to fight for a place/sulks and moans/thinks he should waltz straight in can do one.

seemed sensible to me, and im pretty sure it would have been explained during signing negotiations

It seems reasonable, but certain players need to be managed in different ways. Just saying 'we've had a great last couple of years so if you think you have a right to start you should fcuk off back to where you came from' doesn't really work, especially with footballers.

If that actually was his attitude then it's no wonder we got relegated that season.

This is the same Roger Johnson that has not only turned up drunk to training (so bad that he couldn't walk straight), but also turned up worse for wear for a matchday. He was promply left out of the side (Robin Friday would have been welcomed with open arms in that state).

I'm not convinced RJ fits the Reading Way.
