What positions do we actually need?

by fedders1871 » 09 Aug 2014 15:55

Its all well and good gossiping about players but what we should be thinking about it is what positions we actually need.....

IMO

First Team Left Back
CB - looking like Ferdinandy
i would say a CM but when everyone injured comes back it will be too crowded with - Karacan, williams, guthrie, hector, akpan, taylor... unless we sell one then i dont think we need one.
i dont think we need another striker now with POG, Cox, kanu, Mackie who can play there as well.

this might seem like a pointless thread but its better than just shouting names out.

With a first team potentially of
__________McCarthy
Gunter__Pearce__Morro__Obita
_________Karacan__________
_____Williams__Guthrie_____
McCleary____________Mackie
__________POG___________

With Federici, Cox, Kelly, HRK, Hector, Taylor, Cummings, Edwards and a promising academy we have next to no weakness (when injury free) We have depth so the next step is adding quality and I would argue our weakest area is down the left.

Ferdinand confirmed Monday. Then focus on LB and a CM with Akpan moving on. Still need a top end striker, then I think we have a decent looking squad this season. Starting to shape up nicely.

personally, i would love to see a LB, CB, and a CM who can play in an attacking role come in. now that we have 2 new strikers (one who will likely play on the wing) i think we are set. if we can get everyone healthy and have no long term injuries i feel like we can challenge for promotion this year!

IMO

.................Pogrebnyak

McCarthy vs Fed is debateable
Guthrie & Karacan vs Williams is debateable
Pearce vs Morrison is debateable

If we can get them all fit and keep them that way, that's a side that should challenge for the Play Offs.

Our strongest 11 would not include Robson-Kanu.

After we've signed Ferdinand think we need a LB , and a 20 goal a season striker to replace Pog.

Making our best team something like

Federici

Gunter Pearce Ferdinand ?

Karacan Guthrie

McCleary Cox Obita

?

Subs-McCarthy (or Andersen if we sell), Morro/Hector, Williams, Mackie, Blackman, Robson-Kanu, Pogrebynak

Then the likes of Tanner, Kuhl, Tshibola, Taylor, Edwards and Samuel to come through the youth.

I still don't really want to see Ferdinand here.

Recognised left back definitely needed. Also a striker would be good as out of those listed I'd only class Pog & Cox as strikers, both decent enough but neither especially prolific in the goals department. Mackie for me is more of an attacking midfielder who could play off a single striker whilst chipping in with a few goals & Robson Kanu may still think himself a striker in whatever 'perfect little world' he's created in his head, but in the real world........he isn't.......

Once Ferdinand arrives left-back is all we need, but I'd like to see a specialist striker come in too. Fully fit I'd like to see:

---------------------------McCarthy---------------------------

Gunter---------Ferdinand--------Pearce-----------New LB

--------Guthrie-----------Williams---------Obita---------

--------McCleary--------Pog/New ST------Mackie-------

With Cox, Karacan, Blackman etc. providing ample cover. Obviously I realise Karacan will start every game once fit but I think Obita could flourish in a 4-3-3 midfield.
