Free transfer watch ......

by linkenholtroyal » 05 Apr 2016 13:51

Last summer I believe the 2 best signings we made were Quinn and mcshane both on free transfers. so this thread is for any player that reading may be interested in on a free transfer in the summer and also the opinion of whether we would then actually want to sign them. so players in the last 3 months of there contract and why you would sign them......

is there anyone from teams who could be relegated, like Bolton/Fulham who would improve our side?
if so, lets buy them

Zach Clough for me, also believe we're interested in the lad who got sent off up there Saturday - Holding.
Also that Icelandic player at Charlton - Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson - looks fairly useful.

David Wheater.

Yeah he's a bit slow and cumbersome but if we're losing Hector and Ferdinand over the summer we could do worse than him as an experienced centre half on a free transfer.

- James Morrison will be free in the summer will be 30 at the beginning of next season. (Only played 18 times for West Brom this Season, similar sort of signing as Quinn and McShane).
- Adrian Mariappa from Palace, will Brian bring him back on a Free?
- Marc Wilson at Stoke, been injured or on the bench all Season (Only played 4 league games), contract expires in the summer.

That's 3 players that would be good signings.

Zac Clough looks a good prospect but his contract isn't up until 2019 so I think Bolton would still be after a fair whack for him.

i expect peter crouch could be interested in a championship club this summer he has only played 9 games this season and will have 1 year left on his contract in the summer. Would be a great signing for a championship club for a season or two.

Guðmundsson is another one who looks like a good player but having just looked him up it looks like he's contracted until 2019.

royalp-we Take your picks from this lot:

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/champion ... 016/plus/1

Not entirely trusting that list. James Henry signed a 2 year extension at Wolves last September but is listed.

Having said that, Joe Mattock could be half decent cover at left back. He's had his problems off the field though.

Harry Bunn would be an excellent signing but I can't see him coming here.

I've always liked Mirco Antenucci but his missus wants to return to Italy.

I don't think Daniel Bentley has signed a new contract at Southend, although I think we'd have to join a queue to sign him

Some of those are loans. The loan contract is expiring but the contract with the parent club isnt. That caught me out with Kyle Lafferty.

Picking out some names from royalp-we's list:

Kevin Foley

Really good for Wolves when they got promoted. Failed a trial with us in the summer. If he's good enough then McCarthy will probably give him a new contract.

Jamie O'Hara

Talented but some serious attitude problems. Leave alone.

Junior Hoillett

QPR's Robson-Kanu - only plays well when he needs a new deal. Don't think he'd necessarily represent an upgrade on McCleary.

Alejandro Faurlin

Kept Leigertwood out of their side. Very talented player with serious injury issues. Might be worth a gamble, particularly if we lose Norwood.

Tom Huddlestone

Will probably stay with Hull if they get promoted. Too immobile for 4-4-2 but fits in well when they play 3-5-2.

Alex Bruce

Kept McShane out of the side but might be too similar.

Fabio

Excellent player, doing very well for Cardiff and will probably be hoping to move on to bigger things. Plays at either full back or in midfield so in many ways would be ideal.

Ben Turner

One of the best defenders in the league but has serious injury problems. Potential Ferdinand replacement?

Liam Bridcutt

Not out of contract, but Sunderland have a lot of central midfielders. If we lose Norwood then Bridcutt would be a good replacement. Reading born.

Turner and Bridcott were two that caught my eye as well. Didn't notice Faurlin but he's another cracking player on his day (at least he was!).

Harry Bunn is young and has caused us problems in the past. I reckon he's worth a look.
