RUMOUR - Bristol City to Bid £2m for Lita

According to BBC site City will bid for Lita if they get promoted. Whilst £2m fee seems reasonable they are entitled to 20% of any fee under sell on clause when he came to us.

We could loan him to them, then when we swap places at the end of next season have him back.

Worth far more than £2m. I'd rather we kept him for the season and let him go on a free at the end than give him away for that price. Who would replace him for that money?

If you were the manager of a Premiership club you'd look at Lita last season and put it down to a mixture of poor management and playing in a crap team. Which to an extent is right.

I think someone would risk £5m on him.

£5m, with one year left on his deal and only one half decent season in the Prem behind him (remember that all his goals came in a 8/9 game spell), I just don't see it - though would rip someones arm off for it.

£2m seems about right to me.

Considering that he scored 3 goals in 8 games for Charlton, he could still do a very good job in the Championship and good strikers in the Championship are usually worth more than £2m, so on that basis I would say we should reject the offer.

How much would we need to pay for a replacement able to score as many in the Championship as Leroy would?

£3m - Rowan Vine
£2m - Darius Henderson (ALOL)

Like I just said on the Doyle thread, in order to replace like for like we're not going to make any money. Sell him and gamble on someone like Eastwood (who we'd get for less than £1m) or Nicky Maynard for £1m and we'll have broken even on what we originally paid for Leroy.

I agree £2M would be very cheap for Lita. His 3 goals in 8 at Charlton which is not exactly stunning form, still equates to 18 goals over a full season (46 divided by 8 times 3).

As you imply Vine has only scored 8 in his last 50 appearances and Henderson managed 13 all year after failing in the PL. Lita is a far better goal scorer than either or most of those mentioned on here.

Agree that if we do sell Lita for a more realistic £4M then it would be better to invest in lower tier layers like Maynard. Not sure about Eastwood.

Not if they could offer £ 2 million and probably get the bid accepted.

I reckon that when we sell players this summer, they will go for prices slightly lower than we may expect.

Are people sure there is a sell on clause with Lita? My memory is that we were the only club prepared to pay the £1m that Bristol City were sticking out for while other clubs were offering structured deals. That being the case I'm not sure why we would have settled for a sell on clause being put in.

Yes it does. We will not get a striker for £2m who will assist our promotion bid anywhere near as well as Leroy could. It would leave a hole in the squad that would prove difficult to fill. What is worth more - £2m now for a player with the potential to be worth a lot more, especially given the current going rates for promising English players, or the knowledge that we have a striker who is more than capable of causing Championship defences major headaches, and who could potentially fire us back into the Premier League? He is a top player who has had a rough season. If he leaves this summer, it had better not be for a paltry sum. If he leaves next summer on a free, it will mean that he either made no impact anyway, so we shrug off a relatively small loss and move on, or else it will mean that he had a brilliant season, achieving great things for Reading, and moved on to bigger things. Either way, I'm a happy bear.

According to BCFC Official site there was a 25% sell on clause. However it is 25% of profit on resale not the whole fee. Here is the link

Still can't say I'm very keen on Lita, he's got a ropey background away from the game and his style of backing into the defender and falling over doesn't do him many favours at all.

On the other hand I was impressed with his reaction after our relegation at Derby, he clearly wants to do well and score goals and that is something he could do plenty of for us in the chumpionship.

I think £2m would be a little on the low side, even after last season. £3m would seem much more reasonable to me and I think we could probably find a decent striker to take his place for less. Whether they would then be good enough for the prem should we get promoted is another matter.
