RUMOUR: Scott Griffiths

by I was there at Elm Park » 03 Jun 2008 19:18

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 433715.stm

Dagenham & Redbridge have revealed they have had no offers for 22-year-old left-back Scott Griffiths.

Championship outfits Ipswich and Reading are rumoured to be preparing bids for the versatile defender.

Griffiths joined the Daggers from Aveley in 2004 and was a key member of their League Two squad last season.

Chief executive Steve Thompson told BBC Essex: "We have had no offers for Scott or any of our players and it seems this is just an internet rumour."

Griffiths is believed to still have three years to run on his current contract and the Daggers would want a substantial transfer fee, although Thompson said they would not stand in any player's way.

He said: "We sell the club to potential signings on the basis that if a club higher up comes in with a reasonable offer then we would not prevent them from furthering their career."

Replacement for Shorey?

That's exactly what I thought. Some how I find it hard to believe that we're going to find another diamond from London on the cheap. Would be lovely to think someone like him could be the new Shorey but I would expect him to end up being more of a new Scott Golbourne. Still as the Dag & Red person said just rumour at the moment, though the local paper in Ipswich reported on it too:

And how long did it take for that team full of those type of players to progress enough to get promoted?

I guess we're not really learning from our mistakes (Halls, Sodje, Bennett, Brown, Golbourne, Fae etc). We need to try and bring in players a bit more proven instead of continually gambling on rough *diamonds* in the hope we can polish them up.

If this is the type of signing we're looking at I hope we're also looking at bringing in some more established players to compliment them, especially after recent comments from Coppell about the squad being too big and having too many players all at the same level.

Seen this lad play before.
You may think he is bad,but in fact he is very good.
He can play all over the defensive park.Tbh he would be a good signing.

You could actually be talking about Halford, except you haven't mentioned his throw in ability, therefore Halford>Griffiths.

I don't think we can afford too many players that aren't rough diamonds.

fact is that in losing nicky shorey we are losing a big threat from assists, crosses and feekicks-something you cant ignore. If inevitably Shorey does go then big efforts must be made to find a replacement above any other position. I really dont know much about Griffiths, however he does sound a bit too defensive and a 'one size fits all' for a position as specialised as left back. I would look at someone like Chris Gunter from Spurs as a season loan if we are unable to find any one suitable enough in the Uk or abroad......

Speculation - Scott Griffiths

by Barry the bird boggler » 25 Jul 2008 06:39

Age: 22
Pos: Left Back
Club: Dagenham & Redbridge

Don't know too much about Scott other than he is apparently attracting interest from several league clubs and given that Nicky is very likely to be on his way to Portsmouth (esp. now that Harry has got a shed load of cash after flogging Muntari) Scott could very much be the sort of player SC would go for.

However should a move happen I think it would leave us a little short of experience at left back....

That is why you are not a football scout.

Could you name 10 League two players if given a minute?

10? at least make it slightly difficult and say name 20 players from just Aldershot, Exeter and Chester

Point proven.

There are 500 players regularly playing in League 2.

It would be stupid not to be scouting them.
