RUMOUR - Derek Riorden

by winchester_royal » 07 Jul 2008 18:23

Just had a look at the 606 page and apparently we are close to signing Celtic striker Derek Riorden for £2.5 millon.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/F10605894?thread=5643413&show=50

If true would be a very good replacement for Doyle.

If you had a choice though Winchester of Doyle or Riorden who would you chose?

If I had the chance to sell Doyle for 7.5 mill, and bring in Riorden for 2.5 then i'd probably choose DR.

So would I but £7.5 million would be a very very good deal for the club. I dont think Doyle is worth more than £3.5 million based on last season.

TBH I think Doyle is dead wood at this club, I wouldn't mind him staying but if I had the choice of Riordan or Doyle I would probably go with Riordan....regardless of the price.

I really cannot believe you think that. Doyle is probably the major single reason we got promoted and reached 8th in our first PL season. His constant running has created a large proportion of our goals let alone the 19 PL goals he scored. Just because he had a poor season by his standards does not mean he is dead wood. He will score 20 plus for us next season if he stays. I really hope he does.

Your editing makes it look like I said that!!!
If it were a straight choice between Doyle and Riorden I would go for Doyle because he would do well in the Championship. However if we sold Doyle for twice as much as we bought Riorden for then it would be a good deal in my eyes.

I think there's a good chance that Doyle will p*ss all over the championship. He has a lot to prove due to last year and I
don't think championship defenders will be able to deal with him...

Sorry Pearcey - the editing was rubbish!

At the end of the day I doubt SC would stop Doyle going if he really is set on an immediate return to the PL so if we do get 7M plus I agree that Riorden might be a good replacement. I would still prefer Doyle to stay and really think WR's reference to him as deadwood was ridiculous.

When he said deadwood I think he meant he's on his way out.

DR is good on FM'05 but never fulfilled his potential.

Riordan caused controversy when he appeared in a video making "racist chants" about Rudi Skácel, who was then a Hearts player. The video, which was recorded by a fan using a mobile phone, involved singing a song to the tune of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine about Skácel being a "refugee". (Skácel is from the Czech Republic.) Riordan later apologised for the incident[1].

Hmmm...doubt he'd fit into the team.

Not that we have ever been massively into the SPL since Coppells arrival (Scott Brown attempt apart), sounds like an ominous souce for now...

Could be a replacement for Lita, I'd have thought, if Leroy should go elsewhere.

Burnley had a £400,000 offer turned down this summer, i think we would get him for under a million rather than the £2.5 million quoted

Celtic only paid £200,000 for him 2 years ago and he's only played 30 odd games, so I can't see them wanting anywhere near £2.5m for him.

1 goal last season.

7 the year before that.

In the SPL.
