RUMOUR - Brian Howard & a trip to Espana

by (.)Boobies(.) » 29 Aug 2009 16:56

This isn't from a familiar source, but a reliable source in any case.
I am told we have been in discussions with Sheffield United for attacking midfielder Brian Howard. Mixed stories on this - one involving James Harper going the other way. I can't add to that though, only that a move to Wolves seems over now.

Nick Hammond has also targetted a Spanish player and I believe this to be on a loan deal but I need to dig further on this one. Perhaps gazzer loyal royal or someone else reliable can add to this?
Interesting few days ahead in any case.

I don't think Howard would leave Shh Utd for us tbh. Would be a crackin' signing though nevertheless!

I see Howard has a mention in the O'Dea thread, my apologies. The Spanish link interesting also, but I don't have much on that.

Rather have Stock than Howard.

Stock is a midfield creator and leader.

Howard has'nt done much this season. Would be surprised if he was prepared to leave the Blades.

Howard would be amazing but there's no way he'd join from Sheff. Utd.

M-U-R-T-Y Howard would be amazing but there's no way he'd join from Sheff. Utd.

Youth career
1999–2001 Southampton

Senior career
2001–2003 Southampton
0 apperances, 0 goals

2003–2005 Swindon Town
70 apperances, 9 goals

2005–2009 Barnsley
121 apperances, 27 goals

2008–2009 Sheffield United (Loan)
15 apperances, 1 goal

2009- Sheffield United
14 apperances, 1 goal

National team
England U20 - 1 apperance, 0 goals

He wont come here why exactly? He started down south, has been ok for Sheffield United but never quite did enough. If his time is up at Brammal Lane, you're expecting him to go to another top Championship club or better?

I'm not exactly in-the-know about United's first team, but as far as I know he's in their first team plans. Amirite? I can't see why he'd want to join a team destined for mid-table in the league rather than stay at a team that has more than a decent shout at being in the Premier League next season.

Would love to be proved wrong.

PS. Goals aren't the only thing a decent attacking midfielder offers.

I never claimed goals did, I mearly pasted his previous playing history. If Sheffield United are prepared to lose him, as Scarface and Boobies seem to suggest, then I can see no reason why Howard wouldn't come here.

Gathering a pace this one.

Howard would be great, not done well for Blades, would add some character to the midfield though.

There's a lot of talent in the Spanish B Teams...

I suspect we'll only buy a midfielder if we sell one.

I've here its long coming the other way.

I'd drive him here myself tbh. I don't slate united players but Hes shocking.

Its like playing with ten men. One goal and a foul throw is the sum total of his contributions here.

I think most of us here would take that. Long needs 3-4 touches to bring the ball under control. Nice lad, just not that good at playing football.

I'd imagine Howard doen't fit into the hoofball stuff you play. Always impressed me though when I've seen him play for Utd and Barnley.

Stock is a far better option for us than Howard ....Jem can do the job that Howard would do

We just need new faces mate. Not seen enough of either to judge which is better. We need an experienced attacking mid imo to help out Karracan or Davies. Espcially if Marek does leave.

I would imagine it could be 2 in 2 out with centre mids tomoz...
