The HP ar parkk queue is one of my bug bears. Why do they only have 2 people taking cash, and 1,249 people pointing at the empty spaces that you can see for yourself.

The prooblem will be solved in October when the HP site closes.

Reading Council needs to force the management at Green Park to allow football parking.

Using what power?
Is Green Park wholly in the RBC area anyway? Are parts of it also in West Berkshire and Wokingham?

The council should link some bit planning decision or similar with the football parking issue. Something like "Yes you can build a new office block but in return you must..."

Councils do this to developers all the time.

Indeed they do because sections 106 and 278 (?) of the Town & Country Planning Act allows such agreements. However, they can not be entered into retrospectively so, presumably, the opportunity has been long since lost.

But the council didn't miss the opportunity to use their powers to steal some of our parking by insisting that we turn it over to park and ride! They set out to actively discourage people from using their cars to get to the Mad Stad to wtach football but are perfectly happy for shoppers to make the same journey in their cars!

It's a good job I'm nice and friendly to visiting supporters. As we were stood near McDonalds in the retail park a number of travelling Mancs asked us whether it would be alright to park there. I warned them off by pointing out that they might come back to find the barriers down and their cars locked in the car park and that even if they parked by the fast food outlets they might get clamped or ticketed.

Arrived early, parked up at Pizza Hut. Took a look at the traffic and decided to gamble on leaving the car there after eating (heh, we paid our money for our pizza, surely we get to park....)

Got £40 ticket.

Now, I fully expect to be told thats what I should expect with all those "NO STADIUM PARKING" signs.

Anyone else got a ticket from there and tried appealing? I figure as I have a pizza hut receipt ...

I wonder whether they will be willing to take you to court to enforce it? They may not find it as easy as your local council and/or be less motivated to do it.

They should have a backroad for footy supporters going into the ground from the main road Then it would alleviate the strain on the roundabout, and on the motorway, for bona fida travellers trying to get off.

It also doesnt help you bleeders jumping the lights

Absolutely no chance of that happening! Football supporters and motorists, the politicians' favourite pet hates! Forget the fact that they are incapable of providing decent, affordable & reliable public transport - thou shalt not use your car, particularly to get to football matches!

I was bemused as to why they've decided to hold greyhound racing on the same night as football. Not only that, but the 2 biggest games of the season (or in the history of RFC so far). I can't ever remember having speedway or greyhounds on at the same time as football before. Indeed, Reading Bulldogs usual Monday night home meet was changed to an away at Peterborough due to the Man City game.

Anyway don't expect the Council to care about the problems. I'm sure they will have plenty of staff out on overtime to assist - ticketing every car that is parked where it shouldn't be! The Borough Treasurer must have been rubbbing his/her hands together in glea when the fixture list was announced!

Strangely it looked like the council gave up (or ran out of tickets). I walked up Bennet Rd and they had ticketed every car on a double yellow and also cars on the grass verge for about 50 yards and then stopped.

Why not park there anyway ? How would they know that you are not going to the Greyhounds ?

Me and a mate are going to get to the club really early and sit in the hotel bar watching the Ryder Cup and the footie scores come in. A win for the R's and it will be a trully amazing day.

It just baffled me that they would organise these two events for the same time. It will be caos with the 24,000 footie fans mixing with the 50 greyhound punters.

Probably ran out of time - they wouldn't have wanted to chance being on the scene of their crime when thousands of football supporters turned up!

Rest assured they will increase staffing levels next time around, in order to ensure they can cope with the volume of business (maybe they should manage the admin at RFC!)!

Got to the ground more than an hour before kick off last night only to be turned away "car park full" and re-directed to Smallmead. That in turn was nearly full so had to park right on the far side of the track.

Handed a slip on the way in warning that due to dog-racing their car park won't be available for next two (I think) home games.

Took 60+ mins to get out afterwards

I bet it also has the time you finished eating and got the receipt.

I'd say no chance in fighting that one.

time has nothing to do with it.....they were genuine custs.....say that when u left u wanted to go to town but traffic was bad and decided to walk/taxi/bus to town instead or greyhound racing and decided to leave the car there.........

Open Green Park!

Green Park have a clamping policy and will not let football traffic park on the roads in the estate. Lucky for me I park at my office.

My brother-in-law just flashes his ( out of date ) Costco card and parks in the offices of my sister-in-laws husband in Green Park.

Greyhound racing is always held on a Sat night. It is the fixture timing that has screwed the car parking so blame SKY tv.

The few times I've been to the Madejski Stadium I've noticed there's a huge expanse of land the size of a football pitch where very little seems to happen. Couldn't that be used for parking?
