Hulse goal was offside - please confirm

by hobbit » 16 Sep 2006 19:54

I left a message on the match thread but it seems to be getting lost.

I watched the game live on TV in Denmark - great performance and the score flatters Sheff Utd.
Not that it matters but can you guys back in the UK check the slow-mo replays of the Rob Hulse goal.
It seemed to me that when Akinbiyi flicked on a header in the box that Hulse was offside before he went on to collect the ball and fire the ball in the net.
I only got chance to see one short replay so it would be great if someone else can take a look at this.

I'm recording MOTD onto my comp, so I'll do some grade a analysis on it

Just saw it - was 100% offside though Sky commentary failed to even mention it.

Let's just say the lino had his mind on other things during the game as a result of some classic winding up in the warm up..........   I so hope that Soccer am can find it on tape, it will be hilarious!

I thought it was offside, but that lino was crap, and I wasn't surprised he didn't flag it.

There was a cross for Akinbyi standing way way offside that was intercepted by Sonks, his clearance falls to one of them and still no flag.

Whether it was offside or not, thought Hahnemann should have saved it myself...

It was finally spotted on Football First last night when Harry Bassett finally conceded that "some referees would have given that"

I heard that as well ... surprised no one else spotted it. Well done Dave!! Who else thought the commentators were hoping for a Blades win?

I have to agree that was definily offside, but Sonko should'nt of let him pass him. Also im surprised that Hahnemann didnt save it. But anyway 3 more points and are first away win.

we're getting plenty of luck, both good and bad. it all evens up in the end and we still won. We can be slightly happier now we know it was offside, though Marcus should have been tighter to his post.

Yes it was offside, but the ball went out of play right in front of the lino, I think in the build up to Seol's goal. Swings and roundabouts...

If you're talking about the bit in the second half when Ingimarsson crossed for Lita to head it at the goalie, then the ball was not out, whatever the pillocks on "Goals on Sunday" might say. It's only out if the whole ball is over the whole line, and Ã

The ball has to be fully over the line, and in this case it wasn't.

Also, I thought we were a little unlucky not to get a penalty when doyle had his boot clipped in the area after cutting in front of the defender in the second half. Maybe if he had made it look better, then we would have done, but he just slid on his knees.
