Player Ratings vs Man U

by ypc102 » 23 Sep 2006 19:43

Hahnemann: 6 made some key saves but some were sloppy

Ingimarsson: 7 gutsy performance to hold draw

Murty: 6 Was in no man's land for the Ronaldo goal.. but did fine otherwise

Shorey: 7 good job holding off runs on his side

Sonko: 8 anchored the defense well

Convey: 7 Worked hard and helped at defense. Didn't seem too dangerous on attack

Harper: N/A Can;t really rate him... didn't even know he was playing... not visible at all..

Sidwell: 5 Passes were not crisp, worked hard nevertheless

Seol: 8 Good crosses.. was only real threat for Reading... should have drawn at least a yellow from heinze

Doyle: 7 Well taken PK... could have finished better with that golden chance

Lita: 6 Held off defenders well but failed to make impact.

Overall, what a performance by the defense to hold on. Entertaining game to watch and looking forward to next week! Someone explain what Harper's contribution was...

Well taken pen? Very very saveable. Weak and too far from the corner. Very fortunate not to have missed his 2nd of the week I thought!

It was strong enough for it to go through Van Der Sar's hands... If it goes in, its well taken

Thought harper and sidwell did well.

Sidwell was unassuming and not glory hunting but apart from one poor pass towards the end was solid. My rating 7
Harper pushed forwards when there was space and I thought he did ok. Rating 6.
Otherwise, I agree with your ratings

Harper didn't too badly actually but I thought Sidwell was awful - one of the poorest Reading players easily.

Bull. It's that attitude that serves England's penalty takers so well.

I think that you need to take account of who the opposition was. Top teams are not going to allowyou to play as well as lesser side. On that basis these are extremely good ratings.

In addition, individual ratins don't count - it's the team performance that is the important thing. and on that basis our ratings must be at least on a par with Man Utd (1:1 I think).

Finally: how would you rate their players? By the sound of it Ronaldo and Rooney put in a lot of effort but what about the rest?

p.s. I remember when we met Man Utd at Elm Park in the Cup. We were doing reasonably well in the old First Division at the time but were completely over-run. I think that we have come a long way since then.

Doyle better than Lita?..is that why we lost our way after Leroy was taken off?
I thought he battle brilliantly and also won headers against Ferdinand

A superb team effort and a priceless point.

Harper - chasing shadows as usual. Sidwell - not one of his better games. Cannot fault the commitment and effort but we were fortunate Manure were so ineffectual in front of goal. Long may our good fortune continue.

Still 10 points from 6 games and I fancy our chances against West Scum..

Thought the midfield was alot better than Uniteds. Seol got the better of Heinze time and time again. Thought Harper had a good game, intercepted alot of passes and Sonko had Rooney in his pocket. Good team performance. :D

Not sure about the N/A for Harps, or the 5... I thought he was excellent.

It made a change for him to be carrying Sidders (who I didn't think was disastrous, just probably his wort game this season).

Hahnemann 6 - Looked Ok, but did pill the ball on a couple of occasions
Murty 7 - Solid performance and didn't make any mistakes
Sonko 8 - Won everything in the air, and dominated their forwards passing was wayward as usual
Ingimarsson 7 - Solid and didn't make any mistakes.
Shorey 7 Loks the part in the Premiership and defended solidly. Didn't get forward as much as usual
Seol 5 A lazy performance, a couple of nice bits of skill but didn't make an impact in the game
Sidwell 6 - Went about his business but was dominated by Man Utd's midfield
Harper 6 - Worked hard and ran his heart out, but had little impact goung forward
Convey 6 - Possibly his best game of the season, but still does not have the same impact as he did last year. Maybe lacking confidence at this level
Lita 7 Worked hard and won a fair share of headers. Got no change from a strong Utd defence, but attitude and workrate were first class
Doyle 6 - OK, but wasn't at his best and Ferdinand had him in his pocket throughout the game.

If so then perhaps a 6 would be more justifiable rating.
Your rating suggests that he was the worst player on the pitch, which is just too obscenely arguable that it's not even worth arguing.

I don't think any Reading players deserved a 5.

I thought Seol was fantastic, he is so skillful with both feet and easily beat his man with skill and pace. He needs Kitson though to get on the end of his crosses. Heinze was lucky not to get a booking for persistantly fouling Seol.

An off day for Sid, worked hard, but there was no gel to the midfield. We needed to hold onto possession better when we were under the cosh.

Sonko was great. Lita was better than at Sheffield and obviously trying his best but still needs to improve.,

Convey was looking more interested than in previous games, let's hope he's coming back into form.

Just my opnion. I thought he did look lazy, and maybe you are being a bit subjective considering your username.

considering my username, perhaps I do favor Seol, and thus can be a bit subjective.

But my intention was not to propose that he was the best player on the pitch, deserving a 10, 9, or even an 8.

... Just merely stating my opinion that 5... may be too harsh.
