Do you want Cardiff in the Premiership?

by SpaceCruiser » 25 Sep 2006 10:02

With the Southend manager tipping Cardiff to win the Championship, it looks possible that we may see Cardiff in the Premiership next season. Would you like to see that happen?

I, for one, do not want their horrible hooligans in the Premiership.

Also, it is the ENGLISH Premiership - wouldn't it look stupid to have a Welsh team in it? There is the League of Wales, why can't they play in it? I know that they (and Swansea) were in the English league long before the formation of the League of Wales, but still perhaps they should get there and they'll have an easier route into Europe. Do they even still play in the Welsh FA Cup?

Promotion to the Premiership might even force Cardiff to sort their support out once and for all. Would have no problem with their promotion at all, were they to come up, and good luck to them, they are playing some decent stuff this season.

No. They don't.

That is a very valid point.

YAWN. Did people complain when Swansea were there briefly, in the early 80s?

Did they?

Think it would be excellent for Cardiff to come in the league. They haven't played in the Premier League before and not many sides would fancy picking up points at Ninnian Park.

Would be interesting to see what the FA say over terracing and Ninnian Park itself. After 3 seasons in the Championship, you need to convert to all seating but Cardiff have been exempt from needing to install seats because of the proposed move to a new stadium. Would the Millenium Stadium ever be considered for matches?

IIRC, they were basically told if they were to compete in the Welsh Cup they would have to leave the Football League and join the LoW. Understandably they chose to leave the cup.

Personally, I would have no problem with Cardiff going up if they earn the right.

If Cardiff gain automatic promotion,.then yes I would like to see them in the Premiership as they would deserve it.

So why highlight the fact it would be stupid if a WELSH team was in the Premier league

It's the ENGLISH Premiership. I could understand it if the Welsh had no league of their own, but they do.....

How long have Cardiff been playing in an English league?

Why should it matter where they come from, does it really bother you that much?

Its of non-league standard.

There's also Newport, Wrexham, Swansea and Colywyn Bay (at least) that play in the English League system.

Historical precedent has some sway - it keeps it England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland rather than a Great Britain team, after all.
