Sonko for France

by Reading Abbey » 27 Sep 2006 16:21

Says Sir Steve.

I thought he had already played for Senegal but clearly not!

STEVE COPPELL believes Ibrahima Sonko is good enough to get in the France squad – and insists his powerhouse defender has yet to reach his peak.

Sonko, who is eligible to play for either Senegal, his country of birth, or France where he grew up, has been in sensational form this season as Reading have made a fantastic start to life in the Premiership.

And Coppell told the Post: “Without doubt he’s international class. I would think he’s certainly a good French standard and he will get better.

“Centre-halves are not at their best until their late 20s – and that will be true of him.â€

He's better than Boumsong and he still gets in the national squad!

I'll only be dissapointed if he misses the Upton Park game. He is crucial at the back for us. Bikey just isn't up to it yet.

He's played for the U-23s and played for the full team in an unofficial friendly I believe, neither of which counts as far as Fifa is concerned - unofficial and youth appearances don't stop you turning out for another country at senior level.

I think he's got a good chance over the next couple of years!

P.S. Spacey he was born in Senegal but lived most of his young life in France, so if you have a problem with that I would throw away your t-shirt now... yes, reading have a French player

You dont do yourself any favours

Watch now as Spacey comes back claiming he was just joking and wasn't being serious and will then end his statement with one of these:

Reading Abbey But he could be in contention for the Sky-televised visit of Arsenal on Sunday October 22.

So that would then be 9 weeks out, not just missing the two games the club hoped for originally!

Sonko for France? Well if Boumsong can get a game then he can't be far off.

Sonks had better start brushing up on his Rimbaud .
If he gets le call up we will require Shades (hobnob artiste extrordinaire) to conjuer a petite portrait of superbman with a beret and the obligatory string of onions a danglin whilst of course dispossessing Rooney.

If Sonko does play for France and then wants to retire somewhere down the line - good luck...........
