Mate on the way out?

by UpNorth » 28 Sep 2006 18:41

Mate has suffered knee ligament damage in the reserves game.

Not clear how serious it is but if he is out for any length of time I guess the loan will be terminated and he will be on his way home.

Sad but he appeared to be some way off making an impact on the first team.

Well I guess that ends the arguments as to whether he is good enough - at least for the time being.

Please don't let us get any injuries to our first choice 16 before January because our already thin squad is now even thinner.

I for one wish him a speedy recovery, he hasn't had time to even begin to settle in and its a real shame.

one appearance for the 1st team and 1 goal. not bad for someone who's about 21, a long way from all that he's ever really known and who has a whole new lingo to get to grips with as well as new faces around him.

personally I hope its a lot less serious than it could be and that he's back up and playing in a month or two....

get well soon mate!

Always sad to see a new player injured, especially as he's just getting used to the set up, style of play, etc.

All the best, Mate!

If he is on a season long loan, will we hang onto him in case the injury is not as severe as thought?

Also, if there was intention to sign after the loan, we'd want him settled in. Sending him back because he's crocked is very short termist.

How typically arrogantly British to assume that other countries don't have excellent medical facilities available to them. Remember that Hungary is the nation that gave the world the foremost establishment for treating cerebral palsy patients and getting them to walk and talk.

There are some outstanding medical facilites in the rest of Europe, including the old Communist bloc.

As it's a year long loan, I don't believe there is a return clause. It is to all intents and purposes a full transfer for a period of one season.

but we're talking about football clubs here, and finances, i imagine our physios are better than his clubs in the eastern bloc on the basis that we're in the best footballing league in the world.

If he has to sit it out for a while his time need not be wasted. He can learn English and French so that he will be able to communicate with the other defenders.

Of course, how can the man in the street let such a nugget slip his mind!

I think the point was that we're in probably the richest league in world and our clubs can afford to pay top whack for it's medical staff/treatment.

Not to forget an increasing number of Brits visiting those countries for surgery because the health care is every bit as good, maybe even better, and a lot cheaper than here!

He should stay in England even if he's out till February... that way he really can settle in.

I got the impression we were keen on signing him after the loan anyway, reading between the lines of course!

But then, in Eastern Europe it isn't necessary to pay top whack for good treatment. My friend is Serbian, but now living and working in the UK. She had a serious medical condition last year that, if not treated, might have left her sterile. The NHS refused to treat her, and advised her to get pregnant as a means to *possibly* solving the problem (despite the fact that she had split up with her partner of 16 years, and only recently met a new boyfriend).

She was able to arrange an operation in Serbia within a month, and the entire procedure (inc. post-op care) cost £600. Can you imagine private care here being so cheap?
