Simon Sheppard, never, his saves when we beat Wolves managed by FSB keeps him out of there. Paul Bodin and Matt Robinson weren't even the worst players in the teams they played in. Meaker certainly had a massively overrated opinion of his own ability but wasn't the worst. Steve Swailes for me. Dreadful.

Einstein agogo you should rename this worst player you've seen play for reading , because lets face it , we are all far too young to remember all the players over the years...there could have been some really crap players in the 1923/24 season..who knows.. any 100 year old fans on here????

I was gonna say eammon dunphy but that was a very long time ago and on reflection, it wouldn't be fair. How about Eric nixon, on loan from Tranmere? Played one game for us in goal aginst Leeds at Elland road in (i think) a league cup match. If there was ever one player that didn't give a nats nadger about the r's, it was him

Despite being forever hyped as a promising young player always on the verge of the 1st team, Andy Freeman missed a sitter from a yard out in just about the only 1st team game he ever played in.

Bit harsh saying he was one of our worst players ever based on 1 game but he never lived up to the billing.

Can't believe the slating Matt Robinson is getting. Yes, he faded towards the end of his time here but he was a 500% improvement on Stuart Gray when he first came in. Mainly in the sense he could run with the ball above jogging speed.

I also thought Scott Murray was dreadful for us, especially considering his reputation and transfer fee (which we were lucky to recoup). He never looked like he wanted to play for Reading.

Hardly fair. He didn't make the grade for us after his apprenticeship but was pretty successful at semi-professional level for Yeovil and Kettering.

Agreed about Robinson. People have very short memories. We were looking like relegation material and then Butler and Robinson came in. Both those players made a massive difference and after that we were fine - I think it was only after he f*cked his ribs/lung or something that Robinson went downhill.

Meaker - that bloke was sh*t. Problem was he thought he was great. Having to put up with his fat arse waddling down the wing really brought it home the sh*t we were in the following season after Wembley....

Robinson? Do me a favour, he was more than able for the first 6-12 months or so and did a decent job in a transitional side.

Well, for what it's worth, I fcuking hated Matt Robinson, he just got it and his second touch was always, without fail, to hoof it as far as he could... and he went straight from us to Oxford. Cnut.

Evers was awful as well though. and cost 5 times as much, so I can understand that call...

Meaker - I've had a re-think, he was absolute shoite (worse than he was on page 2 of this thread). Some of the others like Reilly (Holsgrove was another useless individual) had comedy potential, Meaker would reduce me to tears.

The funny thing about Meaker was that he would always start a ridiculous on-going running battle with his opposing full back as if this would hide his shoitness and of course show his commitment.

As an earlier poster said this was the start of the break up of the great 1995 team. The good guys started to leave and dross like Meaker started to arrive. You just knew things were going to go downhill, just a question of how fast. J & M certainly knew how to pick em!
