Burnsey_Y25 Stand up not sit down

If you want to stand go and watch Reading Town......

I am bemused at how the trouble quota has shot up as the ground has become full. Am I right in thinking that those of us who suffered crap in the lower leagues were reasonable - whereas the glory hunters are often tossers?

M4 Junction 11 They're trying their best but clearly there are leasons that need to be learned before there is a serious incident. It would be a good touch for STAR to get involved here and check with the club what is planned.

I got a phone call from a fellow board member and a personal account from Handbags but no-one else has contacted STAR. When it comes to this sort of incident we have no credibility with the safety officer if the only evidence is that of an anonymous internet message board so if you do want us to take it up seriously we need more to follow Handbags and give us their account of what happened.

You might not believe it but sometimes people on here are less than honest, and those people undermine what everyone else posts

Surely it also holds good as a stand-alone statement that now we're in the Premier League the stewards need additional training/awareness. I think the behaviour of the Man U and Chelsea fans have shown this. I don't see this as being anymore than the chief steward going to see how things are done elsewhere. I couldn't make the game so gave my tickets to my mum and sister. Thanks to Mum  I'm going to get a letter from the club, for swearing and standing. Ok fair enough but she says she did not like the Steward's attitude and told him to p*** off and was almost ejected. Was also told not to use my seat again!! Doh! I apologise to the people who had the misfortune to be around her. Stupid woman!!

Does anyone have the e-mail address of the person or people responsible for the stewarding at the ground?

Sensible answers please.

I think all we want is the main man/woman/people responsible for the stewarding to answer our questions and let us know what we can and can't do when we're at the ground. And also what the away fans can and can't do!

We all pay a fair amount of money for the privilege of watching top-flight football so we have the right to know what actions could risk us getting ejected/banned from the ground.

Oh how I love helpful HobKNOBers like you.

I know where to get a copy of the regulations from!

What I want is the NAME of the person responsible for enforcing them. Or the person responsible for training the stewards on how to enforce them.

I thought that a decent user of this forum might have had dealings with someone previously who was helpful.

Unlike your post! Eejit.

Its Clive Doyle isn't it, in charge of the Stadium Control room, and Ray Ilsley is in charge of the Stewards room, I guess either of those would be ok...
You can contact anybody at the club by thier email address, which is thier first initial followed by their surname.

so for Clive Doyle its cdoyle@readingfc.co.uk and for Ray Ilsley rilsley@readingfc.co.uk

Oh, unless you want to know about the secret ground regulations?

That's the whole point, you plum!!!!

I don't want pointing in the direction of the poxy regulations...I want to deal with someone who can tell me exactly what the club are going to do to improve the stewarding!

As for the secret ground regulations, I know where they're kept....in the same gimp-box that you climb out of every home game!

Can we ask Winchester what sort of camera he used?

I know that the way these things are generally interpreted is that it's recognised that taking of photos with camera phones or small digital cameras can't be stoppe and so is tolrated, but anything that involves "serious" photographic equipment (professional standard, multiple lenses etc) won't be allowed.

So what was Winchester using?

I suggest that you refrain from hurling childish insults at whoever it is at the club you are trying to contact; they will likely be less inclined to help you if you are abusive.

If you do not know how to behave in a civilised manner perhaps you should ask somebody else to help you.

I went on a tour of the stadium recently and in passing saw the folders of the assessments of the steward training as they were being sorted out. I don't know how much of this is refresher training, how much is new stewards and how much is further training but take my word the pile of folders was impressive in terms of numbers and effort of the 2 people sorting them.

When it comes to how things are done elsewhere, from the times I shadowed the chief steward and the chief tango, I know that they do not work in isolation. It is easy to make assumptions when you do not agree with the methods used but it is equally interesting to talk to those involved to understand their point of view as well as getting your own over to them.

Does this mean if I arranged a stewards forum I would get more than last time? Then I was the only one to turn up :(

Surely there is TV coverage of the Chelsea fans standing throughout the whole game and encroaching onto the pitch at full time - is this not enough evidence for the club to hold their hands up and admit that, rather than tackling the major issues, once again the stewards buried their heads in the sand.

I think that more and more fans are getting fed up with the quality of the stewards and the fact that some of them put on a flourescent jacket and it's like Hitler himself has possessed them!

I think it's safe to say that you'll have more fans attending this time!
