The_Cat DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT download TV ants I have just spent the day restoring my computer and losing everything I had. :(

Be careful with any of these programs. The trojan installed by TVants is detailed here. Make sure that you have a personal firewall that alerts you to any program's attempt to access the internet.

Virus

by mattmartin89 » 08 Oct 2006 12:04

These kind of things have viruses hidden in them..for example 'asiaplate.com' and its software 'sopcast contains 3 major viruses so stay away from these programs.

I granted them all access as I thought they were needed for it to work.

I'm not sure that TV Ants contains any viruses. I think by connecting to some of the channels, that some malware is downloaded, but the software itself is clean. Something funny happened when I last used it, but the previous few occasions it was fine. Pretty sure it is the choice of channels that causes the problem.

I watched it using http://www.myp2p.eu/index.htm

By clicking on the link it automatically fired up tvants and buffered the channel. Super picture as well.

Guys, I can watch games thru Media Player. It tells me its playing at a speed of 512 KB per second. I have a 1 MG broadband conection and the image quality is not bad. If I were to have a better connection would it be a clearer picture?

no... the quality is pre-set for basic broadband
the faster your connection the less buffer time you need and less likely to freeze and rebuffer during games
I have 8mb and even mine buffers and freezes but not so much to annoy me
Also the server providing the media may get slow if lots of connections to it in which case it doen't matter how fast your connection is

the day before the west ham game i tested it watching some russian game, and within a few minutes my aol spyware protection came up with 20 items of spyware....dont know how serious it was but the word 'trojan' came up.....quickly closed it all down....it is not worth the risk at all in my opinion.

And as I said before, I do not think the software themselves install malware or any virus. It's some of the channels that do. Just don't click on anything that pops up and ensure your firewall, anti-virus and spyware software is up to date. I've watched probably a dozen games through all these programmes and only once has anything suspicious ended up on my machine. If you are really nervous, create a clean installation of windows via a dual boot and only use it for watching matches. If anything bad happens, then you still have your standard version to fall back on.
