Royalee F*ck off, name another team who didn't forfeit the so-called pride of this competition apart from Chesterfield dickhead.

Is there any need for that? The guy voiced an opinion. Maybe not an opinion you share but nonetheless one he's entitled to.

alad So you're comparing United reserves with Reading reserves?

Now that really is laughable.

Hang on. You just said we put out a "woeful" team.
We lost. 4-3. At Liverpool.

Man U "reserves" won at Crewe (old Third Division). Last minute of extra time.

Penalties could have seen your only chance of a Trophy gone. Class.

Agreed. I don't share his views either but there's no need for that kind of abuse.

Alad ... I'd rather see Reading stay in the Premiership then win the Carling Cup and get relegated! ... Man United would say they'd rather win the Title than the Carling Cup .. Am I Right?

Many teams have gone on Cup runs and it has ruined thier season .. Hense Millwall 3 years ago, F.A Cup Final and finished near the relegation zone.

Im sure if Reading got into Europe but went out in the 3rd Round of the Carling Cup and the 3rd Round of the F.A Cup .... There would not be 1 Reading fan who would feel agrieved?

So i rest the case that the League is better than pointless cups!

But why can't we go for both?

And I think it would be fair to say that the priority this season for that chap Coppell is still Premiership survival, regardless of the good start.

The priority for last season was to get into the Premiership and (as much as we enjoy the passion and history of cup competitions) whilst thats where the money is its going to be some time before a club like Reading changes its priorities.

Personally I have no problem with us putting out a weakened side in the Carling Cup. However, I will be disappointed if we put out a weakened side in the FA Cup.

alad Would you rather finish 13th and win nothing or finish 16th and win the Carling Cup?

Reading had a good chance of winning it IMO.

I don't know about winning the cup, but I feel we would have beaten Liverpool with a full strength team.

Great the fringe players only play reserve football, then due to injuries have to come into the "full strength team" better for them to play Cup games to keep them on their toes. Also if the fringe players are always in the reserves ,dissent will break out just look at West Ham where players are fighting amongst themselves. From last nights match we saw Little and Oster do well, think it is worth a try to play Seol with Doyle upfront and play L + O wide. Keep Lita and Long on the bench to come on when Seol tires . Right back is a problem with Murts injured , UDL is widely experienced has played many times for his country and can´t be all bad. Probably best to persevere with him .

What good does it do us other than stretch our wafer thin squad further?

So you'd rather risk our season by going on a pointless cup run??

The only cup i'd be interested in would be them in Europe!

alad Take a look at the last few winners of the competition.

2001 Liverpool
2002 Blackburn
2003 Liverpool
2004 Boro
2005 Chelsea
2006 United

4 out of the last 6 winners have been top 4 clubs. .

Followed by........

alad
Reading had a good chance of winning it IMO.

The problem we have is a wafer thin squad. If we were to go on a long cup run it is more games (all in midweek) and more potential for injury with little recovery time. Y

ou can almost imagine the outcry on here if we'd played a full strength team last night and picked up another couple of injuries esp to say Doyle and Sonko.

FA Cup is a different matter. They are Saturday games and set aside in the calendar for a few rounds so a stronger team should be played in that competition.

why would we risk it and why is it pointless?

you wouldnt go to Cardiff if we got there?
or a semi final against chelsea, man u, newcastle etc.... ?
these are the sort of games that make football worthwhile .
