Murty testimonial

by pieface » 19 Nov 2006 13:07

Murty testimonial i know its a little way off but i just wondering how we are going to make this the best testimonial which English football has seen.Lets make Alans one for newcastle look like a garden party compared to ours.

Any ideas how we can pull this off.

I like the sentiment, but I'm not sure how we could top the testomonial of England's greatest goalscorer of his generation, at his home town club.

We can give it a go though.....

Of course Murts should get a testimonial.
He captained the club to the Premiership and this is his 8th (?) season with us - Two more years and he should definately get a testimonial.

I'm sure after the way Murty led the team to a record breaking season last season, and what we're doing this season, he'll most definitely get a testimonial!
If there was ever a reason to make an exception, it's for Graeme Murty.

More chance of Mr Mad paying for my flight to Newcastle than the well-paid Reading skipper getting the chance to earn enough from a testimonial to open a newsagents.

If it was a charitable testimonial and not a pension provider for someone who earns in a year what the lucky ones amongst us might earn in ten then I'm sure the powers that be will be more open to the idea.

Knowing the Murty's (not personally!) I reckon a good proportion, if not all, of the money raised would go to charity. Would make Mr M look very tight if he denied the chance of that happening.

Anyway, how much does it really cost the club to stage a testimonial?

Not sure how much it would cost but I would imagine the proceeds of any testimonial for Murts would probably go to the Royal Families.

The only things that would be chanted that night would be, where were you when murty scored / I was there when Murty scored and M-U-R-T-Y!

I wonder if it would be a game against a SPL team?

Why should it cost the club anything? 21,000 turned up for Parky and that was when we were sh*t and the rains poured down. We'd get a full house with waiting list for Murty if we stay this successful. I see no reason why the club didn't take the cost of running it all from the takings with most of the rest going to charity. However, with two years still to go that's a lot of future to get through.

Well the expansion should be pretty much complete in 2 years so perhaps it'd be fitting that the first game since expansion would be his testimonial.

I was just about to say the same thing. What better way to christen the new stadium (expansion)!

If there is just one person who deserves it, not 2 just one then it should be Murty, not Sidwell, Shorey or Doyle only one person deserves it and that one person can only Murty, no one else not even Sidwell.

If Sidwell signs a new contract and stays for 10 years total then he might deserve one as well.

Ten years with one club (or even eight, for that matter) is unquestionable loyalty and meriting some recognition. Testimonials are no longer about provision for the future, more a gesture of thanks and respect. Bring it on!
