jimmyboy (whufc) Strengthen if you can now and hope that Coppell doesn't go down the route of only signing squad players in the summer like Pardew did because next season will be tough as teams will know how to play you.

Come come now, Coppell knows what he's doing...unlike your past master.

We're crying out for another striker at the moment and I reckon Coppell's got his eye on one.

He has. His name is Kitson. Should be available in January - Quite good apparently as well

Also a creative midfielder, maybe this guy called Convey might be worth a try, also available in January !!!!!

One can't help but wonder if, possibly, Al took his eye of the ball whilst engaging in the kind of activity that might require an injunction to keep quiet

Either way, I believe it's no coincidence that his friend still has a job and he doesn't :?

Stranded I expect to us to make some signings but also don't expect us to sign any big names who will walk into the side.

So situation normal.

Sidwell is going, so he will need replacing. We'd be mad to let him leave for fcuk all in the summer.

Given that around half of any fee we get for him would go to Arsenal then we might as well hanf on to him. He's worth more to us here than elsewhere.

I think Sidwell will now stay - where else is there to go? He won't go to Charlton and going to Man City will be a big mistake and none of the big teams will come in for him so if he knows best, he will stay with us.

On the buying front, a striker I think is needed, we can't rely on Doyle, this is what Charlton did last year, he's not scoring now and look where they are. If Lita puts his mind to it he can do well but can sometimes be a bit frustrating, Seol is more of a winger, Kitson would be a great player in the Prem but he's had so many problems with injury and Long doesn't have the quality to cut it in the Prem at the moment. I think a target man who will win the ball in the air and who can bag quite a few goals - Crouch on loan maybe

for the pittance we'd get for a player with half a years contract to go - the massive sell on clause to arsenal means it would actually be mad to let him go before th esummer

at least get another half a season of decent play from him before he goes, itll be worth way more than anything we may recieve

We seem to have tried unsuccessfully first with John Halls and second with Ulises De La Cruz to find someone capable of covering Murty when he is injured. Unfortunately those players still don't seem to be able to cover him without our performance dropping considerably.

I recommend Greg Halford as Murty's cover and possible future replacement.

We definitely need a new striker. Maybe Eddie Johnson is the man...... If not then we have to sign someone. Otherwise I think we are more or less alright!

I cant remember many decent players being signed in the january window, its usually for the teams that are in trouble who try and buy their way out of trouble.

Personally id like to a see a striker that could head a few corners in, if we could guarantee Kitson will 100% fit for the rest of the season then problem solved....

There's a school of thought ( a school obviously attended amongst others by Messrs Warnock and Pardew ) that you can never have too many (crap?) forwards.

However people seem to be very reluctant to include Seol when we talk about our forward options. Before he was crocked for the Watford game he had played 4 matches in a more attacking central role. In these 4 games we scored 8 goals, won 3 matches and played our most fluent , progressive passing football of the season. Ok he may only have scored 1 of those 8 goals but he certainly contributed fully to these performances.

I'm sure Coppell is looking to improve his attacking options( as with all other positions , no doubt ) but it could well be a short term solution initially and even then as much as to allow Long to go out on loan and get some games and experience under his belt for next season as anything else.

If we are in the market for a striker, and I'm not sure that we should be, there is likely to be a surplus of them at West Ham if Curbishley gets one of the Bents from Charlton

Maybe the much vaunted move of Zamora to the Madstad could be back on the cards...

Was hoping West Ham would appoint a big name manager who would come in and make massive changes. I doubt Curbs will be getting rid of many players come Jan even if he brings a few in.

It could happen in the summer and I think in an ideal world we'd wait to then to do any big deals, I think a lot will depend on how we do over the next month, if our form drops then maybe Coppell will look at things differently.

It's hard to think who really would add to the team now, i think we've gone past the like of Kilgallon and will be looking at a much higher quality of players, those sort of players tend to be more avaliable in the summer rather than January when clubs will be desperate to keep hold of their better players.

Welcome to another exciting edition of "The World's Daftest Quotes".

In the running for top spot this week are

President Bush's remark "I think Bin Laden celebrates Christmas",
Cilla Black's incredible "I don't think I sound too different to the average Cockney",
Jose Mourinho's "My team never dive or cheat",
Nigel Quashie's insistent "Southampton were definitely the best team in the Championship last year" and
David Kitson's "I don't think anyone has noticed I'm ginger because I don't go on about it too much"

but this week the winner is almost certainly bound to be

John Madesjki, manager of Reading Football Club with the unbeatable quote "Signings are not exactly vital".
