Was good to see so many people joining in with this chant, but why does everyone sing it so quickly. It would sound alot better at a slightly slower pace. It's not a race.

Because everyone is clapping like mad

The song isn't 'clap for the Steve Coppell'.
Clap in time with the chant maybe?

It's the same problem with Blue Army, the East Stand gets so bloody fast everyone gets out of time.

To the attention of the drummer

Stop doing 'Come on Reading' so slowly, it truely does make everyone sound like the biggest bunch of spastics!!!

Good chant when done at the right pace, speed it up a bit, it'll sound a lot better.

Yes and while you're at it, lets sing Blue Army at a much faster pace....

But seriously, have a listen to it, its embarassing. I'm in support of the speed the drummer does the blue army chant, but said chant above at that speed is shite.

Jerry St Clair Steve Coppell still gets less vocal praise from our fans than Tommy Burns used to.

How queer.

Exactly what praise did that useless c*nt get, and when?

Er......"Tommy Burns's Barmy Army" before pretty much every home game in the late 90s. IIRC the whole east stand would join in.

"Stand Up For Steve Coppell" only gets a sprinkling of fans joining in (the West Ham game being the exception to the rule).

I was there at Elm Park What really pisses me off with the drummer is the way he interrupts Sweet Caroline when the players come out. It makes the song completely irrelevant. If the drummer played along to the song in the intro with everyone clapping it would sound really good and maybe people would start joining in with it and we would start having the anthem that people always say they want us to have. Otherwise I don't really mind the drummer as to be honest most of the people around me only sing when he's involved. I just wish if he could try and help Sweet Caroline to catch on but then maybe I should move on from last season!

Thats because the song is completely irrelevant! If you want to sing sweet caroline thats your choice. If the drummer wants to drum, thats his choice, and to be honest i would rather have the sound of the drummer trying to get an atmosphere going than some sleepy song that people only really sing when there either p*ssed or at a cheese and wine party! When we got promoted the players would have sung 'Humpty F*cking Dumpty' on that particular day if someone had started it!

On KUMB someone commented that if West Ham "did a Wigan, Reading etc" by having a drummer and after goal music, they'd slit their wrists.

And I have to agree. It's a football match not fukking Gladiators.

But how relevant is Delilah to Stoke? A great football song.

I don't think so! Nostalgia corrupts the mind! We only had crowds of around 8,000 per game with about half of that (including me) in the East Stand, and to be honest, i never heard it. I did however hear many rumblings about how much longer we would have to put up with the useless c*nt! And to be honest 'Stand up for ...Whatever/whoever is a poor chant anyway.

ps. What does IIRC stand for?

Hope to hear the drummer tomorrow! It wil hopefully drown out those cringing chants that y25 continually hurl out, you know, those same old unoriginal, monotone chants that other teams stopped using 10 years ago.

I hope to hear the player songs for Kitson and Convey as they are returning from injury and Doyle - 'we all dream of a team of Kevin Doyle's' NOT the Sidwell song bastardised for 'Super Kev' and Hunty's as they've signed new contracts.
