Kitson vows to make up for lost time

Dave Kitson claims he felt like the forgotten man during his five-month injury lay-off – and is now determined to show the Premiership what it has been missing.

The popular striker made his long-awaited comeback as a 60th-minute substitute in Reading’s FA Cup third-round win over Burnley in midweek.

He had not played since injuring a knee against Middlesbrough on the opening day of the season and told the Evening Post: “It is fantastic to be back. It’s been a long road and one that has been so frustrating, but mentally I feel the injury has made me stronger.

“I haven’t actually been able to watch the lads play recently because it has been too hard to watch. I just wanted to be out there.

“When you are out of sight and not playing, it is like you are out of mind. As far as a match is concerned I haven’t been able to do anything for months.

“You do get forgotten about a bit, so it’s just nice to be back and play 30 minutes of football.

“It felt like I had never been away. I am thrilled to be back.

“It is just great to be kicking a ball around, care-free without worrying whether this or that will happen.â€

I don't know if it was recorded but when asked during the Friday phone-in he said he didn't read all the rubbish that was written online about the team. Someone should tell him we write it as we see it and we sometimes write good things as well

There is a lot of bollocks and nastiness written on here which is why most of the players probably don't read the site.

I just hope they realise that the majority of them also get a lot of support on here and we rarely forget a player.

DAVE KITSON will put his six-month injury nightmare behind him when he is let off the leash against Sheffield United today. The Reading striker suffered a damaged knee on the first day of the season after a tackle by Middlesbrough defender Chris Riggott. Kitson, who then needed an appendix op, said: “This season has been a pain in the backside. The tackle by Riggott was a bad one and he knew it but at least he had the good grace to apologise.

"I had been desperate to play in the Premiership. All these big names had been heroes of mine so to be laid up for so long has been hard. To be injured while the rest of the team have been doing so well is not easy to tolerate. You want them to succeed but you can’t be part of it, however hard you try. Kevin Doyle and Leroy Lita have done fantastically well in their first seasons in the Premiership but I am a striker and wanted to be there in the team with them. You try to be supportive but in the nicest possible way I want us to win every game 1-0 with the winning goal in injury time from Ibrahima Sonko, our defender.â€
