RoyaleeRich@EaststandSchards#2Rich@EaststandRoyalee Bollocks decision, it's been dry ever since he called it off!
I'm sorry but that's bollocks - the pitch was pretty much under water. No way they could of played on it this afternoon, even though the rain did stop.
The groundsman said the pitch would be playable about an hour after it stopped raining.
I've not seen a quote saying that - Don't forget that Royalee is adamant that the pitch was a little soggy and there was hardly any standing water on it.
With the information they had and the state of the weather at the time is was the right thing to do.
The majority of the pitch WAS just soggy and the areas where there were standing water could easily have been cleared if our ground staff had done their job properly. The referee could have shown common sense in delaying the game and seeing whether or not the rain would subside, which it did almost dead on 3 o'clock.

Tilehurst MikeWoodcote Royal Took one look at the pitch when I arrived at 2.30 and knew the match would be called off...............it was unplayable...................end of.
If I'm p*ssed of about anything it's that I heard nothing about the match being in jeopardy until the tannoy announcement was made five minutes before kick off.
A Barnet supporting friend checked their clubs website at 1.30, knew the game was off and, therefore, didn't get drenched like 1000's of Reading fans.
IMHO, the Mad Stad pitch must have been beyond saving by at least 2 o'clock and many of us could have been saved a wasted, very wet, journey.
At least like me a loyal Royal you bothered to turn up. 12000 odd for the third round of the cup is a pathetic turn out, raining or not. Just goes to show the plastics and half price season ticket brigade have no loyalty to the club at all--just glory hunters. Just hope we don't do a sheff utd on Tuesday with the 'weakened' team we are likely to field.

It also shows that not everyone is made of money/can afford to go to every game/is prepared to be ripped off.
It really hurt finding the money for our season tickets this time around and the money the club(s) wanted to charge U16s for a 'B Team' FA cup tie was taking the piss in the extreme.
I'm sure you'll find a good number of die hards from the 'bad old Elm Park days' who didn't buy tickets for the game.

Isn't the pitch actually below ground surface level?
The sub-soil drainage will be able to cope with a fair bit, but after a while it will just get overwhelmed.

That's right, 10 out of 10 for such a brilliant post
As has already been mentioned, a lot of people chose not to go due to the cost of the ticket (£20 for basically a reserve game) - and including people (like myself) who were regulars at Elm Park and not part of the "plastics and half price season ticket brigade" as you put it. The moment the ticket prices were set at £20 for adults was the moment that realism dictated the crowd wouldn't be bigger that 15K.
I would also venture that a fair few people who chose (and remember that it is a choice) not to go will be making the trek up to Goodison on Sunday for what is by far and away a more important match. Are you going to call them plastic for choosing to spend their money on an away league game rather than a home FA Cup game? Thought not.

A true loyal Royal would go to cup game and Everton--end of!! The team wasn't full of reserves either and with Convey and Kitson making comebacks (albeit on the bench) its still a lame excuse for so many reguars not to bother.
People are thick and have short memories about the half price season tickets which of course I know were not on sale this season. They were a stepping stone for 'newbies' to be able to purchase a season ticket for this season to see Premiership football. THis matter was debated on here in great length some time ago and I don't intend going there again!

In fear of this going down the usual "I'm a better fan" route.
A true loyal Royal will go to as many games as they can get to whether that be every game ever or 1 or year.

The stadium might sit on top of the hill, but I'll think you'll find that the pitch doesn't - see how far down the pitch is next time you come out of the concourse. This makes dealing with run off much harder.

West Stand Man The pitch is way above the surrounding land (ie the land below the stadium) and well above the water table. Drainage should not be a problem if it has been installed properly.
